We haven't supported them for years but I was updating my website and when I went to Niles links, everything on their website says "No products found for this category" and the new parent company (Nice) doesn't list them as a brand.

Are they extinct?

I searched the Nice site for Niles and it only showed 5 products. Looks like they are gone. I liked their outdoor speakers.

Could be a larger issue too. I got an email from a distributor that had 50% off Dealer price on Niles, Panamax and Xantech. Sad when some of the cool old brands get bought, sold, and killed off.

Yes, unfortunately Nile’s has been discontinued. This was largely do to a couple of reasons
1. Online sales from people buying through distribution and then reselling online causing issues with the direct dealers

2. The second reason that is much smaller was that there was too much product overlap on a few brands.

3. This was done well before the Nice acquisition and probably over a year ago now.

Nice is also in the process of rebranding multiple companies under one umbrella which could be why you’re seeing some other potential deals and will most likely see more in the coming year.

Thanks for the info. One of their newer regionals was telling me about 2 years ago that they stopped trying to protect the price on-line with Niles and that they were throwing all of their resources into Speakercraft. This was after years of them stating "Oh...we do everything we can to protect it on line." The giant lie.

These companies continue to fail to understand that allowing on-line sales of certain products is a recipe for failure. Who do you think introduces the idea of Niles products to consumers and then when it is 40% off on-line everywhere, who do you think will never highlight your product again? These executives don't get it and once the companies fail that they work at, somehow they just keep getting hired somewhere else.

Some Niles, Speakercraft, and Sunfire products are now available under the Proficient name. Niles, Speakercraft, and Sunfire brand names however and for the most part, gone.

I think that they get it, but the board does not. "Jack", a slick new MBA can come in, subdue research and expand distribution by taking on discounters or going online. The bottom line shoots up and he (it's always a 'he') is a hero and moves on to victimize another company. Meanwhile the former distribution channels give up the product. Without them, sales become more difficult for the discounters and they'll move on to another victim. At this point the company is left with very little and wishes that "Jack" was still there.

Even before the Internet there was a string of failures. Dynaco, Scott, Fisher, Marantz, ... Yes, there are remnants, but they are not the power companies of old. I can remember a year when virtually all of the traditional sales channels decided that they had one too many lines and for some reason they all dumped Marantz. It was a quick crash.

I remember when Proficient started up as a "budget" line, and this is the one they decided to move forward with.

Good luck with that.

Proficient was hands down the worst sounding speaker I ever heard.  I was skeptical when I had to go with budget planters and no one had then anymore except Proficient.  They are the same Niles ones, same model number, just moved over to Proficient branding.  They sounded just like the Niles did previously so at least it seems they didn't Proficient them up and left them alone and just changed the name on the box.

The Proficient subwoofers are Sunfire, and I'm happily satisfied with the FDS series models I have sold. Also, the Proficient PAS-4.1-BU is a carryover from Speakercraft, and sounds nice for the price.

Proficient inwall/ceiling speakers still suck.
