Hey everyone, I am a novice. I moved into a house where all the rooms in a house have speakers and those speakers have the Elan z100 remotes on the wall. All those speakers connect to a elan receiver and then to a single Sonos amp in the basement. All the speakers seem to be working well. I have 2 issues. One of the Elan remotes, I cannot get it to be green power. The dj2 is lit up red but the power blinks red when u click any button. It’s so strange. The other issue is that in one bedroom all the buttons are dead and the remote doesn’t respond. My questions are, do you think the remote that is red can be fixed? For the one that is dead, any idea if I can replace it anywhere? Does it need to be a Elan z100?

That system is a dinosaur. I know because I installed some. The keypads that are run through your home with CAT5 wire. It’s usually plugged into a special punch down panel specific to the old ELAN system. Hopefully you will have a little slack on the wires. At this point you would be better off replacing the system with something modern. ELAN makes a much better system that can work on CAT5 wiring, but it will need to be terminated differently. There are other brands that will work on the same wires as well. Finding a installer willing to service that system will be difficult. The fact that the speakers still work is a major savings, as well as the wiring that is already run. There are other competing whole house audio systems that will work on the existing wiring. I’m still a fan of ELAN. Mainly because they have grown up to be a whole home automation product.
