Have a client that lost her MBR TV remote. Brought the family room Sony remote to MBR. It only powers on/ off Googled it and tried to reset the remote from family room. Held down volume- & mic button, light flashes orange. This was done while tv was unplugged. In theory it supposed to reset it to IR. Checked with phone and only power outputs IR signal. Tried this multiple times. Ready to order mad old ir only Sony remote. BTW, DirecTV remote controls the volume , power fine. So I know tv is accepting or commands. WTF am I doing wrong. This can't be that hard..... I'm ready to toss this thing in their pool.

Before trying any troubleshooting, we recommend you try resetting the remote control:
Remove the batteries from the remote control. Note: Opening the battery compartment cover will vary, depending on the type of remote control. For details, refer to your TV manual. On the remote control, press the Power button for three seconds. Reinsert the batteries, making sure they are inserted with the correct polarity (-/+), then see if the issue is resolved. If the issue is not resolved, remove the batteries again and leave them out for approximately 1 minute. Then, reinsert the batteries.

Just in case you haven't thought of it.... You can control most all the major brands of TVs with their app these days (including most AV receivers, etc.). As long as the TV is connected to the network, you can use their app to navigate the menus & control.
Just make a folder on your phone/tablet and throw all the equipment apps in there. Kind of an essential tool these days for installers.
