Others recommended the Snap/Sonos B260 HDMI ARC extenders, so I have used a handful in the field. Two in particular are giving me intermittent troubles.
Sonos AMP.
Sonos/Snap B260 ARC extender.
Samsung 80 series QLED TV.
Sound flips back and forth from TV sound to AMP sound.
Is the 80 series QLED problematic? I’ve got other Samsung and Sony working in the field.
I have two of these troublesome ones in the field, 55” at one location, 65” at another. Problems.

If I was in your position, I’d stop trying to be an HDMI Guinea pig and install products that work and don’t rely on tech that is the Wild West.

I’ve usex the binary piece on an older Sunbrite TV and Samsung Frame TV so far with no issues FWIW. Maybe check to see if Atmos is enabled? I had a Yamaha receiever that really acted up with the Atmos option in the Samsung turned on.

A friend sent a text yesterday to tell me he and the people he works with were returning from CEDIA, then sent some photos of what he had seen. I asked if anyone had fixed HDMI and he laughed.
20 years into HDMI and it still sucks.

If they were reimbursing us for all the stupid service calls we get they would have it fixed by now!

I had the same issue with an 85" samsung with the external box and the snap arc balun. We eventually gave up and moved the sonos amp to the TV and jumped the speakers back to the rack and out to the in ceiling speakers. That solved the issue. PIA though.

I'm Not an engineer, but I play one on TV. My handle is Tweety but I have nothing to do with the organization of similar name. I just had a really big head as a child so folks called me tweety bird. |

eARC is capable of more bandwidth for lossless audio and I know has limitations at longer lengths for optical and active cables. Blu-ray is practically the only source that has lossless audio with few exceptions, so in theory if you aren't using Blu-ray, it shouldn't matter but this is HDMI. Definitely, try tuning off eARC. Some devices with eARC can use ARC for audio but can turn off CEC. If that is available to you try turning off CEC. Before eARC regular ARC requires CEC to be on which can cause problems.

If I read you correctly, eARC could be problematic at distances with extenders. But eARC is required in order to turn off CEC. Did I get that right?
