We've been experiencing intermittent issues with controlling the Scientific Atlanta Cable boxes via infrared repeater systems at customers houses. Infrequently the box will not respond to IR commands sent through the repeater system (Xantech connecting block, dinky link, and blink emitters). However, now with the new Sci Atlanta 8300 HD DVR box, it won't respond to any commands over the repeater system. We've tried using the CFL friendly brass IR receiver, the standard dinky link, and even the Speakercraft CFL friendly IR receiver in the past, and usually one of these would work. However, here I am having used both the dinky link and the CFL brass receiver, but the box will not accept the signal through the system. It will accept the code directly from the cable remote if I aim at the the pickup sensor on the box, but that's it. The problem here is that he has a 96" screen covering his equipment, and I can't move any of his gear around to get a clear shot to the cable box. Any ideas? If I remember correctly, most remotes operate on the 38Khz frequency range...My theory is that somewhere on the IR system it is stripping carrier information that the cable box needs, that is probably outside the range of the IR system. If anyone has any ideas, I am currently at my customers house working on this. Thanks!

comcast is still using the 3250 here and I havent had any problems, but I have heard some issues with SA sensors being a little too sensitive. Usually moving the emitter away from the sensor fixes the problem. Also I think Audioplex stuff covers a broader frequency than Xantech. Good luck

It's such a fine line between stupid, and clever. |

I had to add a 56kHz remodulator to my IR system in order for it to work. My 8000HD wouldn't respond at all before, now it never misses. I have a russound 56kHz remodulator installed on the output of the Xantech box, and then the emitter plugs into that.

Marky,
I should still be able to use the xantech emitter, right? What does this remodulator cost? Thanks.

Well, it turns out that it was a sensitivity issue. The cable box has a diffused front near the IR eye, and I had to move the emitter about 1/16" over so that the diffused plastic covered the emitter, and it seems to be working fine now. I can't say anything about reliability, but at least for now it is working properly. Thanks guys!
