Elan does not repair these any more, and I've got a client who's had one conk out.

Alternatively, if anyone has an idea on how to control an HD chassis in a cost effective manner using a double gang keypad from someone else, I would love to hear about that as well.

You can use the Z100/150 combo in place of the HD2000.

You can also use any IR learing KP (xantech seem to work best).

But, you will get no feedback or selection indication.

Actualy, thats not entierly true. You need a specific firmware revision or higher in order to use Z Series keypads with a HD2000 system. I cant remeber off hand what revision is required, but if its an old HD system, it may not have to firmware necessary.... Of course, you could always update the Firmware chip as well...

I think that 3700/3900 or higher will support Z series KP's
If you have an automation card in the MCU you should be good.

Thanks to all of you for your input. I found one at another dealer last night as a result of this post, and the problem is solved.

Yes, the firmware was a concern of mine if we changed to the Z series keypads, and I wanted to keep the keypads consistent for the customer.

This is a great forum, and thanks to all of you.

If you want to stock up on some more or the HDP1000 keypads, let me know. I have a bunch lying around. Also, the 3760 firmware was the first to use Z pads.

Are you implying that the Xantech KP's work better than the Elan in a standalone IR system? Just wondering, because I'm weighing the pro's and con's of both in a stand alone system.

The statement was in reference to using other brands with an Elan MCU.
In reference to a stand alone system.
Unless Elan has changed in the past 2 years. You must have a programmer (Z90 ?) to do anything with the Z series KP's.
Xantech can be programmed at the KP.

You need either the Z090 or the Via Tools programmer to program the Z-series keypads.

I have both programmers (viatools and DD).

Just wondering if one keypad is more reliable than another on a stand alone system??
