I was trying to update some programming on some MX980's, and once again WMDC will not open, so I'm dead in the water.

Seems like every time there's a Win 10 update, this happens.

Anyone know of a quick and easy fix?

Can you run the program in Win7 mode?
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."

Here are my notes from sorting this out in the past:

Requires Windows Mobile Device Center for USB connection
Windows Mobile Device Center requires that the following service is running:
Windows Mobile-2003-based device connectivity
If the service is not running or won't start, try changing the service logon to "Local System Account" in Services
NOTE: Might need to reload Windows Mobile Device Center.  Will receive errors, but can then manually start service.  Installer is located in URC MX-980 Connections Issues folder

I found a cure in a microsoft thread.

Downloaded a MSI file, ran it and voila.

Programmed the MX-980's, and a KP-900.

Have a couple old MX-950's but the stand alone program wouldn't connect to the remotes, so they are going in the round file...
