Was visiting a client I work for quite frequently, and his friend was visiting and told me he would have me over once he moved into his multi-million dollar home he had bought.
Fast forward to a couple of days ago, and he told me he has a huge theater that needs to be outfitted. They were traveling about an hour from here and some guy came up to them in a parking lot and said that they had an extra theater system that their boss just told him to go ahead and sell cheap.
So he said they went ahead and paid $3500 for a system that was worth $15,000. He showed it to me, and it was shockingly cheap. A 72 inch screen. that will be breathtaking in a huge theater. A projector that looked like it might’ve been worth $199, with a brand name Heliois. Sound bar $79 max that had a $600 list price on the box. And on and on, more junk.
I delivered the bad news.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.
Wow! Can’t believe that a) that’s still going on, and b) in this day and age people are still falling for it. A 79” projection screen? When your projection system is smaller than a $1500 TV from Best Buy…
I was wearing a shirt with the store's name on it when I was approached in the store's parking lot. They couldn't have known that I was the installation department manager, but still- they thought someone who works for a store that sells electronics would buy that crap?
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."
I'm surprised the white van guys can operate these days.... Considering the current costs associated with renting a white van.
I'm Not an engineer, but I play one on TV. My handle is Tweety but I have nothing to do with the organization of similar name. I just had a really big head as a child so folks called me tweety bird.

I wonder if these guys got their violins from white vans...
In Tulsa i have seen these scammers in lots of parking lots. Usually an adult and one child playing the violin.
I Houston they caught one family. Had the kid playing the electric violin while the mother begged for the money. The kid was so good it made social media, and people were making special trips to go and hear him play, and give them money.
Turned out it was all fake, and music was coming from a hidden media streamer of some sort.
