Ive got some new model Apple TV’s (5th gen I believe with the new silver remote)

I’ve got these connected via a 4k matrix to a 4k Tv

But when I got to settings > video on the Apple TV menu the highest res it offers is 1080p HDR (I was expecting to be offered 4k hdr)

any idea why this is ? At first I thought it might be due to EDID and something in the matrix was throwing it off , or there was a weird CEC handshake taking place but I’ve since disabled CEC and all TVs on the matrix are 4k, plus if I recall Apple TV’s of the past offer you all resolutions even if you can’t run them

Have you tested going directly to the TV?

Will that 5th Gen respond to IR commands or Network commands VIA RTI?
I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other.

Not heard good news about ANY ip controlled ATV (although just this morning read that Savants IP control is good).

Yes, ALL apple tv's respond to IR control. On the newer ones (4th gen and above) you have to teach the commands via the settings menu under remote. IR control is flawless. IP, not so much is my undertanding, if it can even be done as there are many control systems that dont offer it, yet.

That said, there is ZERO need for even using an Apple TV anymore with Roku being superior, aside from if the customer has itunes library they purchased or the like.

C4 does a good job of IP control of ATVs.

C4 does do a great job controlling them. For about 36 seconds. It truly is the biggest POS driver I’ve ever experienced.

Intrinsec Development has a 3rd party driver that works great. C4’s is awful and requires the end users phone for setup. What moron thought that was a good idea?

I’ve had great results using intrinsic as well.
If you saw the email today though Apple is screwing everything up - again.
They are even breaking their own app with some new protocol.

The best solution is to use a Roku and download the atv app and call it done.

Apple never leaves anything alone.

So always fall back to the most basic way to interact with anything Apple.
Use IR for AppleTV, since that protocol has never changed. Besides the IP API doesn't provide anything the IR codes don't anyways, not worth the pain.
Technology is cheap, Time is expensive.
