Haven't been here in a few years. Its been an interesting few years. Basically retired from the industry (I really don't miss the headaches), but I'm getting interested in collecting some vintage HiFi. In September of 2020, I suffered 4 strokes. Was in the ICU for about 4 months. Finally walking again (not all that well)... But glad to still be around. Did I miss anything???

Not really... HDMI still kind of sucks and water pipes are always in the walls where we want to drill lol.

Strokes are nothing to play around with. Glad your getting it sorted out. Congratulations on leaving this horrible industry.

I'm glad you're back! Ever since you've been gone the tin foil hat crowd has been piling on me.

I'm not sure how 'old' vintage is but I started working a one channel of a Marantz 500M last winter, my big hangup is getting matching output stage transistors.

Pretty classic and collectible. I buy stuff like that and fix it as a hobby (in my spare time lol).

FB user groups are good for asking about transistor subs.  Also audiokarma.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

Stanley, Dude!
Good to hear from you. You're right about the high blood pressure, as well as other causes of tension.

For me, vintage includes three Phase Coupled Activators (a tremendously hokey designation if there ever were one), a Fisher Model 50 (I think) mono phono preamp, a Marantz 33 (I think; it's tube, stereo, and one channel is dead), and a record collection that includes three copies of the record that Columbia issued in 1910 when they totally blew Victor out of the water by introducing records with sound on BOTH SIDES! The Columbia Double Disc, it was called. All of Victor's catalog had a recording only on one side. The Double Disc had something on each side and they cost less than one Victor Disc.

Is there an electronics parts store in Seattle that has vintage equipment sitting on the top shelf around their main floor? I've seen that a place or two.

When I went through the Marantz plant in Sun Valley, CA, yes, around 1971, they were buying quantities of transistors and measuring each one, categorizing them by how well they matched. Your answer is to get enough to luck into a few matching pairs. (Which partly explains the high cost of the product.)
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I was recently in your neck of the woods. Seattle is a beautiful area with a ton to do. We even kept two teenagers occupied.

Glad to hear you are feeling better. My wife works for the local health care system so they push for us to get checked up every year. Maybe next year I'll check in with all the FB/RC Phd's, their brlliance amazes me.
