I'm sure that most of us have received an email from Capitol Sales announcing their shutdown.

How many other suppliers have announced their shutdown to customers? In my experience companies simply disappear without notice.

They will be missed.

Everyone loves Cap Sales but nobody bought anything from them.

Everyone hates SnapAV and everybody buys everything from them.

But the biggest question that has to be asked is why?

People will always default to lower cost and easier. Snap solved those problems in the beginning. Then slowly raised prices so as to not have you notice. Then sprinkle in a couple of dealer reward events where people were winning vans. Genius. Get them hooked on the crack and have a customer for life! If you need to reach me...I'll be grilling on my Weber Summit grill this weekend courtesy of Snap!

Why?
Freight included, see in stock, click, ship, expect in 2 days, task complete.
Same as Amazon.

And just like Amazon, dealers contact supportive distributor, who provides expertise in the product, but then actually purchases said product from less expensive disty, ie Snap.

No different than wasting the sales guy's time demo'ing products at a high end stereo shop, and then buying the product on Amazon, or another online big box.

So, your good distributor goes out of business, because you don't support them because they are a few dollars more expensive. Feel free to use their services, and buy from someone else.

I support the distributors that support me back, and that's not Snap.

Exactly... I dont see that as a good thing for independent businesses across this country.

One of the things that Snap did (like them or hate them) is they bettered processes and policies industry-wide.

Ex: If you tried buying HDMI extenders pre-Snap from your local distributor (at least every distributor around me) and they didn't work, you then owned an HDMI extender! Congratulations! There was no return policy anywhere and Snap made this process existent and easy.

Ex: Snap made everyone step up their website game. They made it easy to buy with accurate information and Amazonish procedures.

When a business disrupter rolls in, you need to adapt or die. In my area, it was very obvious that certain distributors were on their way out, years before it happened.

Bad min/max levels, horrible inventory management and unfriendly policies (distributors need to negotiate these policies with the vendors before you bring them on like CostCo) were some of the telling elements to me.

I used Fred for odds and ends, Crown, Shure, JBL, but being west coast, I also use local distributors.  If I was Midwest, I could have shopped there more.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

Fred hands down one of the top three best people, tied with first place, to work with in this industry.
I wish him well.

I've landed at Industry Tech Sales in the Twin Cities. First day was yesterday, and am busy learning where things are in software, etc. We have stock on many items, which makes me happy....
