They may not have known the possibilities or didn’t want to pay for special programming.

If I show you what the rack looks like, you will know the answer to this.  The whole reason they reached out to us was after continually having to replace amps.  They had 3 amps stacked on each other without even a 1u space between them.  Zero room for air to escape.  Fan in the rack was not plugged in.  Lacing bar?  What is that?  Its pretty darn bad.  Client has no issues paying.  They paid a good deal of money for this system.  Its decent sized, just implemented by a company that does not have any real experience and took the money and ran.

"and three years later all of my Philips smart bulbs still sit unused in a box in a closet"

These clowns are still writing the same nonsense that they have been writing for 20 years.

Philips smart bulbs are not a "Smart Home" they are smart light bulbs...period.

They sit unused because this clown is too lazy to install them.

GC's know everything about everything.

I've done some personal work for a GC who now knows all about A/V wiring -- no need to call me for any of his projects (he is cheap). I got a call from him asking if I could exchange ends on an HDMI cable that was installed backwards.

I installed some TVs at a local country club which just happens to be Milwaukee's version of Bushwood CC, from Caddy Shack. They decided to save some money by having the maintenance guy install the HDMI cables, so the satellite boxes could be behind the bar where people wouldn't screw with them. Looked good on paper, but I'm not sure the guy read the tags because even the TV icons didn't help. Munster Cable, too- these were in the 75 foot range, so that probably cost a couple of hundred bucks. I told them it's not a big deal since DTV has/had the RF remote controls and a kit for mounting the boxes on the back of the TVs, which works fine.

I have to think that some of these pinheads would ask "What's an app?".

Your parallel might be that you wanted to get the water piping in before the wires get run, and they were having a sale on Schedule 20, so you ran that everywhere. Yeah, it was supposed to be pex, but it's all plastic, right?

"I got a deal on 4" Sch 20- that will work, right?".

Sure, the water will get to the 2nd floor. Eventually.

This certainly can be true, but most times that I run into people that have problems, is usually because they either bought a house from a spec builder that does it as a package or bought a hone from someone with an existing system.
