Distance is too long - unless you have a secret - DTv can only go 100-150 ft max as far as I know

It's not a secret.
If someone ran cheap copper-clad steel coax, then yeah you probably aren't getting past 100-150ft.
I always use quality name brand solid copper, quad shield coax. And always get 300ft+ with satellite signals on coax (using RG6).

You can push it way past that using some basic RF engineering and the proper amplifiers.

SDI!
Use the RG/6 with 75 Ohm BNC and go home confident.

Two options I see-

1. If you can reliable pass gigabit over that CAT5 (maybe), then you could go with NVX or similar.

2. SDI over coax. AJA makes quality stuff... HDCP will be an issue with SDI, you will need to strip it.

I’d be reluctant to wire because of potential lightning strike complications. Be sure to bypass well. A second dish would eliminate this … er … potential concern. It seems like a lot of extra mess, but a wireless network link (Ubiquiti or similar) is another approach.

Brent, this is actually the first piece I tried. I could not get it to lock in a picture. I'm at the very end of the 100 meter spec - 328 ft. After thinking about the job, I may be able to cut that length down by about 40 ft.

There is an RG11 in place which should allow for a longer distance than RG6 but maybe I'm wrong about that.

The other issue is I did not have BNC compression fittings for the RG11 so I was using adapters on each end, which is perhaps the issue. I basically terminated the RG11 with an F connector and then added an F to BNC adapter on each end.

Brent, do these introduce any latency? DirecTV is so inherently laggy, plus a small lag on the control system makes latency effects even worse.

Thanks for your help.

I called a couple places like Solid Signal and asked about amplifying the DirecTV network over that 328 foot distance and they said there isn't anything out there.

If you know the gear to find that gear I'm all ears.

Interesting! Does this include the Genie minis running off a DirecTV DVR? This is not between a dish and a multiswitch. Perhaps you have done this successfully between a multiswitch and a stand alone DVR.

Wondering if others have done this with solid copper at over 300 ft.

This unit will do 492' over CAT for 1080p. One of my favorite extenders that we offer.

It might actually speed up the unit (all EDID is done within the TX unit not the DTV).

NO!
Must be BNC directly onto the cable.
