My customers and most people in my circle know how to behave. The few who did not behave, ended up with COVID. Fortunately, none became seriously ill, but we don't yet know about any long term effects.

I wish that we could segregate the population into two walled-off tribes. One tribe can behave with their inoculations, masks, and social distancing. The other tribe can tough it out, and make their political statement. Personally, I do not want to be near the tough tribe, with or without my mask.

Mother nature is attempting to solve the overpopulation problem for us. Ebola was much more effective, but was introduced into a remote area and we could contain Ebola. COVID was injected into a population center with a clever latency period during which the infected individual can move around and spread the virus before exhibiting symptoms. Mother nature is constantly tuning her attack with the variants, such as Delta. We are still learning about Delta, but it seems to be more potent than the earlier variations. The tough tribe is an ideal development environment for breeding and propagating variants.
