I have a friend who sells these chips as a broker. He told me the other day he is on track to clear 1.5 million this year. Normally a 100-150k a year career.

Baller! Just a flea fart in a hurricane in the financial chain- “why are these so expensive, and what’s with all these fat guys in the middle?”

I was just found out Kwikset had a major price increase, and is having the same hard time getting chips as everyone else.

Their cost for chips has gone from $.60 each to $6, and their shipping costs have quadrupled. Not to mention that the cost of the precious metals like gold, platinum, and copper are also skyrocketing.

This was just Kwikset, but it's obviously industry wide. I don't do prewires, but I just bought a bunch of wire to hopefully last me about 6 months. Disty just had a price increase, and said there will probably be another one soon.

Holy Toledo! Does he sell Lay’s or Doritos?

Personally, I think all these corporations are using the virus as a way to justify huge price hikes to increase profits this year to make up for losses last year. I understand there are shortages of product all across the board, but a ten-fold price increase? Really? First lumber, now chipsets, what's next? And how long will it take the lumber hike to trickle down to paper goods? Let's not forget the push to hike minimum wage to $15/hr. Before we know it a Happy Meal will cost $20 bucks and take 20 minutes to get because there are only half the number of workers.

Being one of those corporations I can tell you that while gross is up, net is not.
The cost of everything in the chain is up, and if that was not enough we are still oscillating between shortages and lockdowns (this is a self perpetuating cycle).
There are a number of "new" products that we had planned to introduce at CEDIA and ship the following month....
Yeah, about that...

It will be into the new year (products are ready to build, but parts are N/A).

All I know is I can’t get Sonos for jobs, but I just bought a new Ford ranger. I can’t get a touch panel or audio matrix from Control4, but my ranger sure is fun to look at while I’m not getting jobs done because I can’t get materials. I’m a Sonos direct dealer, and if I order amps today, per the dealer portal, they’ll ship in October. Every piece of Sonos gear I’ve bought since January has been through distribution instead, and it’s frustrating the hell out me, but I’ve managed to get lucky and get Sonos as it hits distributor warehouses while I have unfilled orders in the cue with Sonos. I don’t know how much more of this I can stand

We just received notification of a price increase on a controller from $47 to $255 (our build cost), yeah....
That product is on hold.

My wife is in the electronic component distribution business. Many lead time have gone from 4-6 weeks to 8-12 weeks then 26 weeks and many manufacturers sold out for 1 year plus.

The current situation is expected to remain at current impact or worse into 2023. Items for Christmas are in production or will be starting production soon. That spike pulls a massive demand in plastic, copper, LED's, cardboard and shipping containers.

No worries, in 6 more months Sonos will drop you because you didn't purchase enough from them this year!

Biden just signed a $15/hr bill, but only for Federal employees. Milwaukee's mayor did the same, only for Milwaukee government employees.

Never let it be said that government doesn't take care of itself before all others.

Well that is great. At least it doesn’t affect you. Wait, how do governments get their money? I forgot. Oh, by taxes. That’s right. So maybe it does affect you after all.  Goose the inflation more. Nice job. Buy some more votes.

Neither of these statements are accurate.
