We have an outdoor metal box that has about a half inch hole drilled through the top. One of our techs was installing a camera on top of the box, and did not realize the camera angle would not work. The box contains a push button that calls the house. There are some electronics inside. I'm trying to come up with a way to fill the hole. I'm thinking using gorilla tape on the inside of the box to form a base, and then filling the hole on top with something that will dry and harden that can be painted. I know it won't be totally perfect, but it should be waterproof and get the job done.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks.

Drill the hole out to use one of these. Use some silicone as belt and suspenders! [Link: alliedelec.com]

You may have solved this by now, but I'm wondering... how much clear space is there inside the box, where for instance a drill bit would go in when drilling out the hole? If it's an inch, great; if it's 1/4 inch, you'll have to be pretty crafty if you choose to drill out the hole.
We don't know your location, so it's hard to tell if something freeze-proof is needed. That might limit what you can use.
Anyway, I'd suggest a neoprene washer, larger than the hole, on the outside of the box, held in place inside and out by a fender washer. The screw or bolt that holds this tightly together should be a nylok lock nut.

This is what we use in the electrical field. A bead of silicone around it wouldn’t hurt either. [Link: zoro.com]KOT

I think that a tight seal is important, I like the added silicone. Otherwise, if the box is tightly sealed, there is a risk (over time) that barometric pressure changes will cause standing water to be sucked into the box.

I don't think a barometric seal is necessary to keep water out.

Of course, if tca had given us the actual dimension, you know several people would have given an exact solution! Yeah, because that's the only size. Right. BTW- he said it was "about a half inch hole".
