I'm looking to get a few pieces for home wireless audio and didn't know what the current thought was on Heos? Normally the customers ask for Sonos, you discuss it and just go with that. It's been a while since I've used the Heos hardware/app and am curious to try the updated system.
Thanks

Heos can be a PITA to set up. Bluesound has become my go to. Leaves Sonos in the wake as far as sound quality goes.

I just finished up a home with 14 zones of Heos, all Heos Amps except 2 AVRs and the in-pool speakers using a Heos Connect. The system works amazing and the customer loves it. The only problem we have had is the 2 second delay when linking zones outside, (6 zones and 2 TVs). The unit with the hardwire connection plays whatever is on the TV no problem, but as you connect other zones, the delay starts to kick in. A recent update added TV Mode to the Amps and Connects, that helped a lot. Just something to be aware of.

How would you guys compare Heos to MusicCast, well those that have used both? I'll never sell another Sonos piece again, and currently sell some MusicCast. Have had a few weird issues with linking some devices, but over-all has been pretty good. My local disty does not sell Denon so I have not tried Heos to date.

It actually has a decent selection of services. Out of the big ones, it’s really only missing Apple Music. With all the sonos changes, I’m not sure it’s any worse than the sonos app now.

Other than services, what makes it amazing in comparison? Well, that’s the big thing. Unless something has changed, musiccast has what, 3 services? But also, the Heos setup works. Every time I have done musiccast, it took 3 or 4 tries to get the units to connect

I 100% disagree with you. MusicCast compared to HEOS is amazing.
On HEOS: besides no Apple Music it also has no Airplay. So some people that are in the Apple ecosphere might not have any options under HEOS at all. And last I checked, MusicCast had more service selection that HEOS; so not sure where that came from. [edit]: Posted while I was typing, you must not have used MusicCast in "YEARS"!!! So I think your opinion needs to hold off until you try something from MusicCast a little more current (a lot more current actually).
HEOS = Network problems, setup problems, etc. Had 2 customers that outright got rid of them (lucky I didn't sell it to them). Both of those went to SONOS and were happy. My HEOS demo unit, gave it away to in-laws after I decided I would never sell it. Nothing wrong with HEOS sound quality.... when it worked.

Slightly unrelated question, I'm curious: Does MusicCast offer a path to wirelessly use 3rd party speakers as surrounds for an A/V receiver?

Every time I have done musiccast, it took 3 or 4 tries to get the units to connect MusicCast WXC-50 has Napster, Sirius, Pandora, Spotify, Airplay, Tidal and Deezer. It can connect to a server, use a USB drive as a source, Net Radio, Bluetooth and has an Aux in/out- it also has optical in/out, digital coax in, analog line out, and can be used as a source (called 'Player', with fixed output) or in preamp mode, with variable output level. I use one as the preamp in my system and it works great- I think it's three years old, now. Oh, yeah- it also has an IR input jack, 12V trigger and subwoofer output. I don't know about URC, RTi, etc, but Harmony can control this via IP, too. In addition, the web interface for general use and setup is great. If you didn't/don't hardwire, you're asking for trouble, with any streaming device. It may work on WiFi when you're on site, but as soon as t hey have a houseful of people with smart phones and everyone's on the same node as the AV system, it can really slow down.

They have upped it then to close to the Heos services. But Heos is still easier to get set up. I tried to get musiccast to work on a customer’s AVR before Christmas and the app would never find the AVR. I got them working with airplay to the AVR and moved on.

I tried to get musiccast to work on a customer’s AVR before Christmas and the app would never find the AVR. I got them working with airplay to the AVR and moved on. I have found that using the app is OK, but I preferred the web interface (and they told us to use it, at training)- much easier to see everything. Once it's set up, finding the AVR or streaming device has never been a problem. I did a house where I added a MusicCast WXC-50 and the amplified version (WXA-50, as well as an AVR for the basement system. Did you look for its IP address, or did you connect to it in the network list on your phone? I have yet to have a problem with that. I hardwired all of them and they always show on my phone. I will say, though- my iPhone doesn't always control mine and the homeowner sometimes has the same issue but power-cycling the phones always fixes it.

We use Heos all the time. I can also control it with Crestron. Have several homes with combos of Marantz AVRs with Heos, Heos Links (Source only) and Heos stand alone speakers all being controlled by Crestron. Sounds better than Sonos, treats us dealers better, lets me integrate. What's not to love?
