lol, that article is nothing but click bait and fear mongering.

Agreed - the explanation of moving production emphasis towards camera manufacturing makes sense. But throwing the baby out with the bath water makes no sense...
Being out of stock is not news, especially at this point in time!

The value of the Logitech business is in their database, so even if they did fold it, the codes would live on.
This industry is not getting cheaper and cheaper, we're simply convincing ourselves that we have to push the cheapest option to customers.

It's not just the database- it's what the people in that part of the company can do and have done with it- they have actually checked codes as I sent them, to check for errors. They'll convert from hex so it works for IR and IP, fixed bad codes and added files that they didn't have.

I have been selling the Pro and Pro 2400 where it makes sense. Having a way to make changes remotely (pun intended) is invaluable, and the Harmony gives me that. And people seem to like the remote itself and the app. I have only had 1 callback on all of the Harmony remotes I have out there and it was fixed in 30 seconds using the app on my phone. Brilliant.

If they go under, they go under. I will go back to using the MX990/MRF350 combo. Maybe try the MXHomePro stuff?

Don't Try the MXHomePro Stuff. It is going away soon too. I tried one when it first came out and took way too long and their database is very small.

I carry a 650 in my bag. I Have to learn in harmony codes that URC database didnt have.

I spoke with Harmony yesterday and was told they have no intention of shutting down. Covid has created a situation where the other products Logitech makes & sells are like an Elephant and even after selling millions of remotes, they're about as large as a mouse. Web cams and conferencing equipment are huge right now and they're capitalizing on the market shift.

Harmony is pretty good for what it costs. Period. Its like $2k for the next step up handheld remote option. I have installed and configured a lot of them and so far only one client has complained. She has two apartments. One is empty except a desk and small AV system (her covid office). The main apartment has a new crestron system with new remotes. She has had an older crestron system before that with RTI remotes. She cant stand all the weirdness like being able to accidentally swipe to the settings menu etc.

How do you get $2k? ProControl isn’t near $2k

Have you reduced the sensitivity of the touchscreen?

I don't work with RTI. Does it configure in 30 minutes like harmony? If so whats the hardware retail for remote and base?

Retail for Harmony Pro is $600.

With other control systems this isn't a thing. You cant slide from DirecTV favorites to the home page by accident. Most customers just deal with it and navigate back to where they were but one client in particular calls me twice a week about it. Shes getting crestron when the schedule permits.

The Pro Control R system (RF remote and base station) is roughly the same $600 retail.

Once you have done some systems and/or have pages set up (or a master remote then delete devices you don't need) if can go really fast, under 30 for sure.

It’s not RTI. It’s ProControl. And yes, if you can’t set one up in less than 30 minutes, you don’t need to be in this business. I think it’s around $650, but I don’t remember. I don’t deal with prices anymore.

Not gonna argue about that- they have several details in the Elite/Pro remotes that programmers should be allowed to disable- entering Device mode is a big one.

Unfortunately, they didn't have a dealer beta testing program and surveys before the Elite came to market, only slightly after. If they had, the Elite and Pro never would have had only two 2.5mm jacks and they would have had an outside antenna. The 2400 has these as well as the ethernet port and in the case of one Pro system, the range suffered because of the way the house was constructed. OTOH, the user repeatedly used it wrong and wouldn't read or use the instructions I had left for him.

How is Pro Controls IP database compared to Logitech?
That's one thing that was always pretty impressive with Logitech using the Pro 2400, everything just pops up. I've used MX Home Pro is their IP database is severely lacking.
