I had a customer with an exiting Sony installed. We added a Sonos amp. Everything worked fine at install using ARC. Next day no sound and customer couldn’t turn on TV (using a Pro Control .R remote) I did a remote reboot via ovrc and that didn’t work. I swing by and disconnected the hdmi cable and that fixed the sound issue. Double checked all settings and everything seemed fine. I leave and it does it again.

I notice after a power reset of the tv, the tv will NOT receive the “on” command from the pro remote for 3 minutes. It would receive the “power” button from the cable remote. It also didn’t have sound.

Ended up doing optical for audio and adding a tv power toggle button on each device screen on the remote in case it wouldn’t turn on.

What a headache....
Knowing that Gold went up a few K makes me think "well now I have to do a better job on selling more equipment".

We have had a number of Sony TVs JUST recently that worked fine with standard discrete ON and OFF codes from URC and RTI that then stopped turning on/off. These are all new "H" series sets. We ended up doubling the power commands with a delay in between and then everything worked fine. Ex: TV ON...delay...rest of macro...TV ON.

Some of these jobs literally worked perfectly for 2 days...then stopped working. Sony must have done something with an update to screw these up.

This may or may not be relevant to these issues but I received a suggestion from Sony install support that may be helpful. I called to ask how to shut off the annoying Bravia "setup for best picture/sound message" on a new 65A8H, turns out this may be related to the HDR settings in the Apple TV and the TV but in the conversation I was told the following:

Make sure you sign the TV into a gmail account so the apps and OS update properly.

According to the person I spoke to, it's similar to the way an Apple TV really won't do much until you sign it into a iTunes account, including downloading any apps.

Thought it might be helpful. It's got me thinking and I may try it on my problem 65A8H since I have a gmail account setup for the house ipads, Plex server and Savant. YMMV

After the hardwired update I put it back on my wifi. Today it wouldn't power on (Sony logo blinked but wouldn't come on), had to unplug, then it came on, after initial reboot.
My next shot is a complete factory reset.

Only this.

Over 15 years in the game and I broke my first customer's LED panel.

Worked when I got there.

Took it off the table top stand.

Put it on a Sanus articulated bracket.

Turned it on.

Did you try holding down power button on the OEM remote to reboot?  I am curious if it will respond and reboot in this scenario or if the TV HAS to be unplugged.

That sucks.  How did the client take it?

Did you crank the screws down too far when putting it on the mount? Or did it flex when putting it on the mount?

Sickest feeling you can get.

I did that with the first 75” Samsung I installed.

Oh, that was when they were 5 grand.

I'm becoming more and more leery of thin TV's on articulating mounts. The obvious grip point is not safe in my opinion. I repeatedly warn customers to grasp along the bottom edge, but this is not always convenient. One recent install (85" Sony) in custom wood work allowed a fraction of an inch above and below the TV. (This was an interesting project because there is a slight sag when weight is placed on the mount and differences in top and bottom clearance is very visible. We'll see if there is any additional sag over time.)

I hate thin TVs on articulating mounts. I tell the client the TVs can be broken. We laugh about the term "taco" which is the TV folding up like a taco... that sears the image into their brains.

Funny. When I was in like first grade one of the things coming in the future was the ultra thin TV that just sits on the wall. The futurists ignored the fact that a thin TV is a weak structure because they weren't thinking it through.

About a month ago I had a set get its knickers knotted over Netflix. Probably there were issues with other services too. The solution was to reboot the TV.

That link took me to the last Sony thing I looked up, which was a replacement headphone cover. Odd.
I'm considering adding some sort of remote power control to handle cases where a power up reset is the only solution and the power cord is trapped behind the set.

It's Christmas time, when you can get an RF-controlled AC power switch at Home Depot for around ten bucks. Its only drawback is that when power is lost, the switch stays OFF when power resumes, until you hit the ON button.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

This is why/where I greatly prefer the Chief ts series mounts
Post install “vertical” adjustment, and they do not sag
You can adjust the Arm tension, so moving the TV is smooth

The biggest issue I still see, is the Center of gravity is off due to mount attachment to TV
Keeping the TV plum is a challenge

And now there is this whole issue that you can not find them anymore?

Might as well mention one more thing. So far I've only seen this on one TV model, a Sony, I believe 46."

It's got what it calls a VESA mount that's 100 x 200. Thing is, TV mounts and TVs other than this model have mounting holes set 200mm wide and 100mm high. This stupid TV has them 100mm wide and 200mm high. I didn't get the model number of the mount -- the client found one before I did -- but it's damn rare!

I say "calls it a VESA mount" because part of a mount spec must be that matching product is made, not just that the holes are spaced in hundreds of millimeters. 100mm wide x 300mm high is a millimeter spec, but it's sure not a VESA spec!

The list of VESA sizes can be seen at [Link: soundstore.ie].
