Anyone had recent issues with Sony TVs? We've seen issues over the last 2 months including:

TVs turning off by themselves (not tied to ARC).

Standard power codes not working without longer delays or doubling-up codes.

TVs prompting a "Turn cable box on" mode when all sources are already on. This message is from the TV...not the cable box.

Anyone else seeing such issues lately? We've already done all of the normal fixes (TVs are updated, ARC is off on all components, Sony modes that could possibly turn the TV on by itself are turned off, etc.). This encompasses both 900 and OLED models.

NOTE: It could be tied to this firmware problem but I was curious how many other people are having problems lately.

Thanks in advance

I have one this week. TV turns on. Sound like i need to add some delays.

edit: No, adding delays wont work, he can turn off TV with Sony remote and it still comes back on. I will have to double check CEC options on all devices.

About a month ago I had a set get its knickers knotted over Netflix. Probably there were issues with other services too. The solution was to reboot the TV. I'm considering adding some sort of remote power control to handle cases where a power up reset is the only solution and the power cord is trapped behind the set.

Some Sony's have issues where it will take out the entire network.  Had one I confirmed it on.  As soon as I unplug the ethernet cable from the router, which it was directly connected to, the network comes back up.  There was a discussion in a C4 group on Facebook about it.

I finally update my 65x850c two weeks back and it caused a random reboot issue. Ended up factory resetting the tv (push/hold power while plugging back into power) which forced the TV to properly install the update and solved the problem.

Where did you get the information telling you to do that factory reset?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

My issue was fixed of the Sony TV turning on when you turned it off by changing the remote setting for HDMI on the apple tv, under theater something or other lol.

Ranger,
I've got an LG. It turns off when the Apple TV turns off (goes to sleep). That is, when you switch away from Apple TV, you'll choose something else to watch and some three or four minutes later the TV turns off. This could be related to the problem you've solved for yourself.

Could you try a bit to remember what the "theater something or other" is? I've been through the Apple TV menu and don't remember seeing the thing that might be.

Thank you.

Settings > Remotes and Devices > Control TVs and Receivers. If you see Control TV with Remote instead, you need to turn that off too.

I had a weird issue with a Sony XBR-55X900H. Installed in July of this year.
Customer said TV had issues when trying to turn on and no sound (sometimes got the Android reboot screen, etc.) She sent me a video of trying to turn on, a frustrating process.
Stopped by a month ago, software up to date, system turned on and off ok. I had Googled the issues and told husband we should to a factory reset (hold power while plugging in) but we'd need to set up the apps again, husband said "not today, I don't want to deal with setting everything up now". Oh yeah, and I got Covid from him, I was down for three weeks.
Now, fast forward to last week. Husband texts me "No sound this morning Sonos or built in speakers. Beyond frustrated. Seems like it must be the Sony. I'm willing to trash this on and buy another and pay you for your trouble. You can have this one if you can get it to work".
I grabbed a new 950H model (better chip) and swapped it out......
Threw the old one on my WiFi and monitored it (left it just like it was, no reset yet). It started acting up after a few days (wouldn't power on, power light blinked but never turned on). Had to press and hold to force power on/ reboot.
I tried updating the software a few times. It had some trouble downloading the update (stuck at 66%, or wouldn't download). So, it finally seemed to download but wouldn't actually finish it when powered down. I tried it 3-4 times.
So, I tried hardwiring the TV. Bam, downloaded AND took the new update first try.
Now, time will tell if it still has power on issues it was having but I figured I'd post my findings to help others in the field.
Who knows, the Sony "press and hold reset" may or may not have done the same thing. Right now it still had his apps and only the update and back on WiFi. I wanted to monitor it just to see, since it's just sitting on my bench.

Factory reset from a powered down state is slightly different from a reboot or factory reset from a powered state. Hardware is not fully reset except during the power up sequence. It's possible that a gate buried somewhere in the hardware is flipped when it should be flopped and the gate cannot be reached by software. Of course there could be some sort of fundamental hardware issue or the software reboot/reset routine is defective.

Unfortunately, we can only react, we cannot fundamentally cure this sort of issue.  Sometimes someone will discover a magic sequence that works around an issue -- until the next update!

A few weeks ago I had to reboot a 950H because Netflix would hang while starting up. So far the set has been behaving itself since the reboot.

Can you keep us posted? We're going to go out to a site where we've had issues like yours tomorrow and we're going to try factory resetting it again to see if this fixes anything.

Have a 65 or 75" (forget which) at a client's that keeps totally locking up the network. It is hardwired. Unplug the Ethernet cable from the router that it is directly connected to, and everything else on the network immediately works. Unplugging the TV and plugging back in fixes it for a while. The guy texted me, again, at 4 something this morning about it
