So DTV is in another pissing contest with CBS, and those local channels are blocked.

To make matters worse, using an old DTV receiver that has an antenna input, the receiver also blocks CBS locals that I pick up with the antenna.

I am so done with these scum....

As soon as my Tivo comes in they are gone....

Interesting how the OTA was blocked too. That might be illegal too.

When Dish Network and CBS had the same feud last year. Dish Network offered the OTA module for free for those who can receive their local CBS. Unfortunately I was out of the range according to Dish.

It's a damn shame about this. Blame it on the "cord cutters", or inflation. But me? I blame it on the very networks signing multi million dollar contracts with shows and their actors.

Take a look at the Big Bang Theory. Five of the core casts were getting ONE Million Dollars PER Ducking episode. Plus the other cast members as well as all the behind the scene folks. Seriously???

And as for Friends, yes a show that ended in 2004. Well each of those cast members are getting $20 million per year since then for reruns.

It's not CBS, it's the owner of that CBS affiliate. There was an article about it somewhere, I forget the company. ABC affiliate in Dallas is affected, as well as about 48 other different stations around the country.

Basically, greedy company tells DTV they want more money to rebroadcast our channels. AT&T tells them to take a hike, your viewership is down, our subscribers are down, we aren't paying you more than we already are.

Let's not forget that AT&T is trying to sell DTV, they've even upped their offer with a stake in both U-Verse and AT&T Now.

BTW, this outage is also affecting UVerse customers, the couple hundred that are still left.

TSS,
I'm guessing you didn't keep your options open by running an RG-6 to your TV. I'm also guessing, of course, that you're watching a TV and not a monitor, so you could get your OTA directly.

It makes perfect sense that if DTV won't let you see CBS via the DirecTV satellite receiver, they'd also block the OTA tuner they made.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

The owner here is a group named TEGNA. Don't know how big an area they cover, and really don't care.

I went out to my shop where I'm using the same antenna to test and see if my CBS channels were working. The answer is of course yes, so it is true that the DTV box IS blocking the OTA signal.

Adding a coax directly to the TV for the time being, then when the Tivo gets here, DTV is out.

We should still be running a coax to TV locations. Why? Because, as shown here, you just never can tell.

The old DTV receiver - was it removed from your account? If so, it won't work. You'd need an AM21 (no longer available) or a Local Channel Connector (LCC) if your DTV box will support one. A couple years ago when there were disputes, they gave them away for free. Call and ask for one of the Local Channel Connector (LCC).

The AM21 needs to be connected to a satellite receiver, and the satellite remote then controls both the sat receiver and the AM21. That probably means those stations will be blocked from the AM21s, too.

CBS isn't affected in my area but 2 others are. My AM21 picks everything up just fine and the guide is also populated for the main and sub channels. Mine is connected to an HR44.

I've started moving my ABC, NBC, CBS and the CW recordings to the channels from the AM21 so I don't miss anything when this stuff happens.

Also, I'm not sure but if you are using a Favorites channel list for your guide, you'd need to add these to that after scanning for channels.

3 things:

1) DTV fighting the local broadcasters is in YOUR best interest.

2) on directv accounts, coax lines to TV's is a thing

3) AM21's and associated IRD's that have built in off-air's should be considered obsolete and accounted for accordingly (by professional

Ok 4) this was all known about 5 years ago

Yeah, but rarely used and thoroughly forgotten.

The aphorism I've heard about cobblers and shoes is "the cobbler's children go barefoot," which corresponds to "the A/V installer didn't run RG6 to his TVs." Both are signs of not doing things right. Is that what TSS meant?

Thats what he is referring to, the cobblers kids have no shoes. Its his house, and he has no coax to tv. Pretty simple shortcut he took on the phrasing and is completely understandable.
