I ran into a home that had an old Connect with the CR200 controller. He said they never used the app all these years. I was brought in last minute for a basement finish/prewire and I need to spec the rest of the gear for said basement.

My question is will that legacy Connect hop over to the app without issue? (and they can just leave the CR200 to sit in a cabinet) I'll probably have a couple sonos pieces in the basement setup...

Cr200 limited abilities can continue to function in S1, along with the app
Connect can upgrade to S2 and leave cr200 behind depending on if it’s date of manufacture.
Most anything new will force you into S2 or split system.

Are you sure that the CR200 is functional? At this point the batteries are old and tired. Also, check the touch screen. Many of them fail, sometimes intermittently. Typical touch failure starts in the lower right corner and slowly progresses outward. If you don't touch that area, you may not notice an early failure. Another trick is "phantom touch" where a series of commands is generated while the CR200 is sitting alone. This can result in music starting at awkward times.

Cool cool. I'm / he's fine moving on from the sound of it. It does appear to work.

I just didn't want to lose the Connect for some strange reason if it was unpaired from the controller (them I'd offer MusicCast). If I can keep it around and bring a couple more pieces in the new basement, great.
