I'm got a small project at a beach house outside my normal service area and it's serviced by Spectrum cable who I've never worked with before.

The salesman on the phone could not provide any info about the DVR equipment (basically said I'd get whatever the tech brought on his truck).

I need to plan for the equipment installation... is anyone familiar with what I might receive for DVR devices?

There are only 3 TVs and my hope is some type of a host/client system like Cox Contour.  I can place the main DVR in a small rack, but only have small 14" x 14" VersaBoxes in the walls behind the other two TVs.

I did a spectrum install out of state. In Michigan. It was a DVR and two smaller clients. So, based on MY experience, this will work in your set up. YMMV!

Where is your our of area client? So Cal Spectrum (LA and SD) is a pia. They're no longer doing multi-room DVR as new installs, so you have individual DVR's or regular boxes in each room. Existing multi room systems (old Time Warner and occasional Adelphia equip) are maintained (barely)

Their "APP" is pretty good though. I.e. if you have one box in the house, you will get all of those channels on the app/channel (i.e. Appletv or Roku) No DVR function, but just about everything you would DVR is available on demand... I like the fact that you don't need a box for each TV, let the app do it. Most of the time the app doesn't need to be "signed on" as long as it connects through a Spectrum internet connection... Lots of Rokus out there using Spectrum channel, very few issues.
I'm Not an engineer, but I play one on TV.
My handle is Tweety but I have nothing to do with the organization of similar name. I just had a really big head as a child so folks called me tweety bird.

It's at Rincon which has a Ventura address.  I think this area was formerly serviced by Charter and now Charter has been acquired or merged with Spectrum?

Not sure if I'm going to get a full sized DVR into the VersaBoxes...

The house is only used occasionally by the owner and family/friends and there's no control system so it needs to be easy to use.

Plan was to just use cable box remote but if the DVR boxes don't have RF remotes, that's also going to cause an issue with hiding the boxes behind the TVs.

The newer Spectrum boxes (I think they call them world boxes) have RF remote control... BUT my only experiences (over a year ago) with them was that they were not ready for prime time. Huge lip sync issue, lots of power cycling issues. Cloud DVR not working. All were replaced with older boxes with IR only remotes. I have not seen any of these boxes in my area since.

If I were you, I would count on IR only remotes.

Most of our work is in the WLA, Santa Monica area. As Tweety said above, they have no multi room system currently only grandfathered.
The DVR's are pretty bulky if you're trying to hide inside Versaboxes. The standalone receivers are fairly small, possibly the size of DTV4K maybe a bit thicker.
The RF has worked for us decently.
When are you going to the site? If I'm at any jobs with the "newer" receivers I can measure and take some pics for you. Just let me know.

Charter spectrum in our area has no shared dvr service. Only can watch what was recorded in that room. They had it years ago but never really worked well, so was discontinued.
There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far.

Thanks to everyone for the info... really surprised they don't have some type of multi-room host/client system!

I'll be onsite Friday.  At least RF control is a step in the right direction.  For the two main TVs I have conduit to a location I can place the larger DVRs, but the Master Bedroom TV just has a 14" VersaBox behind it with no conduit or options to remotely located equipment.
