Here are further issues with:
Yamaha RX-A880, HDMI Out 1;
LG 65UN7300PUF, HDMI IN 1;
Apple TV Model A1842 into AVR HDMI 1 via Scene 1;
DirecTV HR24 DVR into AVR HDMI 2 via Scene 2.

I have found and confirmed that when the TV's Deep Color is on, there is no sound. Turning Deep Color off restores the sound. (Earlier threads elaborate on just when sound is on and when not.)

The above has been tested and documented. The rest of this is what happened today.

We watched the new Mandalorian episode on the Apple TV.
Then we turned on DirecTV. There was no sound.

When we switch the AVR to Apple TV, the TV sometimes puts a note on the screen saying that Deep Color will be turned on for this input, if there are problems you should reboot, etc. The message did not come up today, but since I already went through the pain of learning about this, I suspected it might be the problem and I turned off Deep Color. My satellite once more had audio.

The maddening thing is that the message does not always come up and I haven't had enough time to switch inputs dozens of times to see if there's any specific set of button pushes that will get the message to come on.

Turning off Deep color is not that complicated, but it's irritating and I think it's five, maybe six, button pushes.

I don't think Deep Color is much of an advantage for us... does anybody know how to get the Apple TV not to turn on the TV's deep color? I think that would solve my problem.

To come to the custom installation world for a moment, this issue makes it impossible to set up a remote that will simply choose the different inputs I have -- even when there's just these two.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
