Greetings,

I'm working on a project for a company that produces premium quality LED tape products and accessories. They have had good success direct to retail. I have told them they need a different strategy to have success in the CI channel.

They are going to have a controller built so that their product can be controlled via serial or IP and fully integrated with all control systems. Today, the product integrates with Lutron and can be controlled via DMX.

Would appreciate learning who you use and how much of this type product you use. I've spoken with a few of you that put it on every job.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Jeff

We have done a couple projects with Flexfire and have been very happy with them. Colorbeam has been on our radar for some time as well. We stick with Meanwell power supplies and when working with C4, Blackwire has an awesome driver.

C4 we use the Engineering Solutions' Response Box (referred as Blackwire above).

Great little DMX engine with a great driver to boot.

I'd have your company focus on downlights/spots to replace traditional can lighting.

Almost everything I buy in this realm comes from China/Ali Express. Most US based companies do the same, slap a name on it and charge 4x the price. Unacceptable.

A few years ago we did a couple of huge systems, using the Florida lighting guy that our architect suggested. He also bought everything from China, and said that he'd placed maybe fifty orders for lights and had only gotten boned (happy acceptance of money, no shipment of goods) once. If Ali Express is that good or better, then GREAT!

It was a difficult thing to ensure that he was always going to get the same level of product, though.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Hafele lighting is used by a lot of kitchen designers and cabinetmakers, but they're expensive. They do look good, though. Being able to use IP control or something like Caseta would be a great thing.

Thanks for the input. This is exactly what I'm telling them. It's their own design, not rebranded cheap Amazon stuff.

Haven’t been boned yet either. When piece mealing a system, it is very wise to order what you need with about a 5-10% overhead.

QC seems to be much better with the larger orders. One offs can slightly differ if they pick between different lots.

talk to kevin at blackwire, he could help a lot regarding the control side of things. what would make it play nice with at least C4.

Don't talk to Savant dealers. Savant "makes" their own but it does work very well. A bit on the pricey side though.

Savant is almost impossible to deal with as a 3rd party manufacturer regardless of category.
