Anyone have a great recommendation for a dash and backup cam?

I was almost run off the road by a gal the other day so it got me to thinking...

I'm too lazy and don't want to do a new in-dash radio.

Thanks,
Tom

I've been using a Street Guardian for 5+ years.  The first one lasted 3+ years and I'm on the second one now.  It's worked well and caught 3-4 close calls (including two accidents that happened right in from of me) plus a bunch of other weird stuff.

I drive a Ford Transit and it has a circuit that powers up any time a door is opened and then stays on for 30 minutes so it's also picked up some interesting and useful things while parked and at jobsites.

Mine is just front facing, but you can add a rear camera too.

I’ve got a BlackVue in my SUV. 4K front camera and 1080p rear. Starts up with the car and will run for up to 24 hours in parking mode. Wifi allows me to get clips using the phone app, or I have a program on my PC that will download all footage when it auto connects to the home AP in parking mode (although that’s a bit buggy since it’s a third party app, but works well enough).

caught plenty of morons being morons, but no accidents. The week before I got it installed I had like three major things happen, but no footage!

Now a backup cam... not sure what to suggest there.

I've heard good things about the BlackVue line.  What did it run you for the installation if you had someone do it?

I did get someone to install it - I think it was $100 (Canadian)? On top of the price of the camera, although their camera price was well within the going market price.

They certainly did a better job installing it than I would have in a three-row SUV. Basically no visible wires, and they managed to sneak it into a great spot behind the rear view mirror you can barely see.

DT,
That looks great!

I don't see any live monitoring thing. Does it have it?

Is that a little cable going up from the window mount toward a camera mounted at the rear?

I wonder if it will mount on the windshield with all those little black dots that extend as much as six inches away from the edges!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

it's all monitored via wifi from the phone app.  i'm not a fan of having a big screen hanging on your windshield.  granted, this isn't a backup camera, so I guess it's not the perfect solution for him. but my wife's car already had a backup camera, so I wasn't thinking of that requirement when I posted this.

Thanks anyway. I'd be using it with my 2005 Ford van that has a dash about a half acre in area between the steering wheel and the window, so, the monitor wouldn't be a windshield mount.

But thanks for adding more to the different stuff we know about!
