How many have you had to replace?

I have had to replace so many of these it's not even funny and now I have a client that will be on her second one that has gone bad.

These remotes are the most unreliable remotes I have ever used. Very very disappointing product from URC. Sad really that a company that is such a big part of our industry has zero accountibilty when it comes to this product.

Absolutely makes my blood boil what a POS this remote is.

the original oled screen was pretty bad and had a high failure rate after a couple years. but URC helped out alot of my clients with replacements.

Are they really still a "Big part" of our industry? I havent sold on in a couple years at least at this point. I dont even see anything close to new on their website.

It's pretty rare with that remote (for us) over the last 3 years or so. When they first came out, they had the bad OLED screen problem so those things dimmed over time. We have about 280 of them out there and don't see many issues. How old are the ones you're replacing?
See our Youtube page for info about smart homes, great audio and more.

They have a completely new consumer website they launched. Although it is the same vague marketing.
They have the MX990 that launched but a few years ago now. It is an outstanding remote.
But most of their energy is in the TC line of products now. Which is exclusive to factory direct dealers only.

Ryan,
Don't sell the MX-780! As you have already seen, it has serious problems. And that is beside the fact, it is just a horrible remote. The screen is WAY to small and your clients with poor vision are going to complain. The feel of the remote is just not as good as others. And if you get the LCD screen replacement, it eats batteries a lot quicker.
That last part is important. Because the OLED screens were all suppose to have been replaced years ago. But I had customers get OLED replacements and new models, years after it was all suppose to be fixed. No way URC did NOT know about this BS!!! They were/are just trying to dump inventory over time of the defective stuff.
So like you, I had some customers go thru 2 replacements of their BS OLED display models.

Sell the MX-990, it is the best choice in the URC CCP lineup. Only a few bucks more than an MX-890. Nothing else below that is worth the time.

URC is no longer replacing MX780's with dimmed screens free of charge.
I'm Not an engineer, but I play one on TV.
My handle is Tweety but I have nothing to do with the organization of similar name. I just had a really big head as a child so folks called me tweety bird.

I have replaced two for the dim screen and now, the second needs to be replaced because someone dropped it and the screen has thin white lines through the text and a black wedge that shows nothing else. It was dropped on a spongy wooden floor.
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."

i think the need for 4 AA batteries in them makes them so heavy that they are easily damaged.

back when we sold them, we would include a Remote Buddie.

Just installed one to replace a MX880 that won't charge or connect to the PC.

It worked ONE DAY, and now I need to go back to see what the hell is going on with it.

In the interim, the client is taking the battery out, putting it in the old MX880, and running the system that way. Battery gets low, he pulls the battery and puts it in the MX890 to charge.

Meanwhile, I have an old MX950 and some MX900's that still work as they should.

I never knew those existed, but I'm going to suggest it. The guy's daughter had some friends at their house and next day, that's how he found the display.

Just wish remote buddies would update their line to include some of the newer remotes like the Crestron HR-310 and others. Would also be nice if they could incorporate remotes that sit on chargers.

We stopped using URC awhile ago for the most part but would use the MX780 because it was a pretty good value for super basic systems, rather than putting in an Elan or Savant system.

Oh well I am just going to give her a MX780 and then when that one goes out move onto another manufacturer.

Thanks for your feedback.

For the price of that remote, it shouldn't break and should have a soft rubber edge, at the very least.

You could say that for the price of any universal remote they shouldn't break and have a soft rubber edge. The HR-310 is a fairly cost effective remote and comparable in price to most URC, RTI,C4 remotes

For the price of any mobile phone, they should come with a case to protect them...
