Always trying to keep updated on the best value in networking solutions. Is this new Luxul product going to be better than eero?

I've heard someone describing their previous system with controller as a system with multiple antennas that makes it seem like one antenna to your wifi device. Perfect hand off and no disruption when roaming. Their tech support guy even told me that recently. Yet I've heard others say here that it's the device (that is, iphone, tablet..etc..) that decides when to switch from one antenna to another, so I sort of question the validity of Luxul's claim. Recently, people have been saying that Luxul doesn't work that well and is overpriced. eero is better, which I've been using with really good luck.

From what I understand, even eero is not a seamless roaming system and that the speed can diminish as the signal hops across more than one pod. I used to think these mesh systems were acting like a giant single antenna, as seen by the device. I guess that's not true, as well as eero works.

Could this Luxul Epic be a competitively priced system that delivers true seamless roaming without losing speed? Why should I buy it?

LOL, Luxul is the most clueless network company I have dealt with - in the CI space anyway.

Their wireless is easily the worst implemented systems I have ever seen (my God, they don't even allow power level control of the radios! WTF!). There are $39 WAPs on Amazon, that have their crap together better than them. It is sad.

I don't know about their switches.

Their router is OK, although also lacking in features. The best thing about their routers is Domotz being built in and discount service available. They also have some home grown service coming soon.
But for the high price they charge for the equipment... just no. It should be 1/2 the price it is. It is not competitive with what everyone else is offering.

If it is anything like their previous/current products, as Iron Maiden says:

"Run for the hills! Run for your li-iiiiiiiffe!"

FYI...none of the mesh systems or the Luxul controller act as a seamless roaming system.

Surprised they are still around and that people still use them. Same can go for Pakedge too. Both are way overpriced. I feel like dealer cost, maybe even a little cheaper, should be the sell price.

Haven't used either in eons. Much better and more reliable products out there.

i still use the routers.  they are easy to set up and have all the features I need for my fairly simple jobs.  The managed switches have been very reliable in our J+P installs.  (way more reliable than cisco sg300 switches)

i won't touch their wifi products anymore for the reasons Brad mentioned.  If they can't even get what they currently offer right, what makes anyone think their mesh will be any better?

I'll stick with Eero for mesh systems for now.

If you gave me any Luxul product for FREE, I would thank you for your kindness, and when you left, I would promptly throw it in the garbage.

It is a new product for them. If you are a dealer you are tempted. Give it a year to shake out the bugs and keep using Eero because it just works.

You are very kind as I would repeatedly hit it with a hammer, punt the lighter pieces as far as possible and then dispose of it.

Yeah...I've got some issues with the dozens of wasted hours troubleshooting mystery problems and replacing bad APs.

Got burned once.....that is all that it takes for me.

WOW... Lots of hate here for Luxul... I use it all the time. Great tech support, I agree that the AP'S are over priced. You do not have to sell it at retail. I like the fact that I can make a $ on it.. over all very reliable...

If you don't hate luxul wifi products, you haven't been using them long enough, or you are so lucky that you should be playing the lottery.

A better question is who do you guys prefer?

I have used Luxul, Araknis and Eero. We do a lot of Eero lately. I haven't had many problems with Luxul. just two dead APs which they replaced. Luxul's support has been very good. We had more problems with Araknis but there support is good as well. I would look for a company I can get someone knowledgeable on the phone in a reasonable time.

Netgear has been horrible with support and ridiculous the number of layers of support people you have to go through to get someone knowledgeable on the phone. I definitely avoid them.

Ubiquiti seems to have decent products but whore out everywhere and really no support. I don't want online support or searching through forums.

Haven't done much with Cisco except some consumer routers. Do they support us if looking at their commercial products?

I know Luxul had issues in the past, but personally I've had as good an experience with Luxul, as with anyone else in the past few years. The only other products I've used is Ubiquiti, and had just as many failures. I also use EERO for smaller jobs, with good luck.

For a guy who is not a networking guy, I will say that at least Luxul has good tech support, and their systems are easy to set up for guys that are not great with networking. Also margins are great. I've had to replace waps, routers, and switches with Ubiquiti as well, and I'd rather replace a router or wap on a job where I actually made money on the product. Not like Ubiquiti, where I'm basically purchasing the product for retail prices.

I'm about to use the new mesh products in my own home. The only thing I can tell you so far is that the nodes are much larger than the EERO's. If it works as good, or better than EERO, I will be selling them.

For me Luxul was rock solid just enough for us to sell about 30k work of of gear. after about 6 months of so we started seeing problems with WiFi Connections, Routers not grabbing an IP from the modem, POE dying on Switches, Switches going back to the default IP (When you have two switches on a project this is a major problem), roaming between waps was a joke. No way to set power levels, min RSSI levels, etc. Not a real pro system without being able to control features pro's need. They even kept sending us new product with the exact same problems. Supposedly it took months to figure out it was a firmware issue. In the meantime they kept blaming other products, etc. I had to pull all of these Luxul system and replace with either Eero or Ruckus. All of the problems went away.

If Luxul and lie to us about firmware and the real issues I wouldn't trust anything they are selling. I replaced all fo their systems at my cost to keep clients happy. I have more hate for Luxul than I do any other company. We also sold RTI too so that should say a lot.

I looked at a project a while back with a Luxul controller/APs already installed, client is having problems with Savant remotes staying connected to the wifi. Opened my Wispy scanner and found all the APs on channel 6 with no way to adjust channel spacing or power level per AP! I remember Luxul had a one antenna system many years ago that used a Linksys WAP54G with a high power Luxul outboard antenna, is this the newer version of the idea?
