Where would you get new receivers if you wanted to?

“Works With Sonos” Normally means Onkyo, Integra, and Pioneer. There are none anywhere.

Niles SAS-1 autosense. Hard to find, but they work.

I think we already have these. They work perfectly for months then all of a sudden one of them starts clicking back and forth until someone manually fine tunes it. No big deal except the client thinks its an explosive ready to go off.

Currently, with CONNECT:AMP’s there is no particular advantage to using S2. I recommend forcing all of the CONNECT:AMP’s to S1, otherwise you’ll have two independent systems in the same house and the user will need to switch Sonos Controllers, depending on the Room.

Another scheme with Harmony would be to control switched outlets that power the speaker relay triggers. This will work around issues associated with signal sensing speaker relays. Note that with this scheme the native receiver remotes would be useless.

Do the AVR’s have USB ports? You could use the USB’s 5V to trigger a relay. Been there done that. I’ve never tried, but you might be able to trigger on an HDMI port’s 5V line.

The AVRs are all under $500. Super cheap last minute additions to a "budget system". Originally there would only be a DirecTV box connected to the TVs and sonos for music. Then of course scope creep and an apple tv here and a blu-ray there and oh we want to be able to see CCTV cameras on the TVs and here we are.

To be fair...this system went in quick and has been trouble free since 2013 except for these stupid speaker selectors.

Consider the possibility that the switcher’s input sensitivity pots have become noisy. One quick improvement technique that I’ve used is rapidly adjusting the pot from min to max — a zillion times. Leaky capacitors in the switcher can also be an issue, accelerating pot degradation and throwing off the switcher’s timing. I have some switchers that have been in service at least as long as yours and one of them needed a pot “wipe”. For me this “wipe” operation is instinctive preventative maintenance for older equipment. I’ll “wipe” every pot that I can reach.

Of the dozens and dozens of SAS-1 I’ve had in service, I only had one failure. They are pretty solid!

They are at least as reliable as HDMI lol
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

With Pioneer / Onkyo / Integra all but shut down until before mid-2021, I'm guessing Sony AVR's would be your main option?

This is incorrect. Integra will be back in stock in January. Onkyo and Pioneer Elite have begun shipping limited models to direct dealers.
Jack Rainey - Full disclosure...reformed integrator, now mid-Atlantic manufacturers rep for: Integra, Paradigm, Anthem, Parasound, Atlona, LG TV's and Metra Home Theater...among others

Coincidentally enough i got a last minute call to go out to the project on Sunday. Niles SPK-1 with a Niles APC-2. The APC-2 is the issue. The APC-2 got added when we realized the cheapo AVR's didn't have trigger out. This project was a "no we dont need switchers" until we did and it was too late.

I think the best solution is to upgrade the AVR's and lose the APC-2's.

In my part of the world it's all over until mid-2021... so probably different for North America, but the distros at the bottom of the globe are going around telling everyone that there's major component shortages and they simply won't be getting anything.
This industry is not getting cheaper and cheaper, we're simply convincing ourselves that we have to push the cheapest option to customers.
