I didn't want to hijack the other thread but I have a somewhat similar question.

I have a request right now to be able to silence a theater on occasion with a Bluetooth transmitter and 6 pair of headphones listening to it. Anybody have any suggestions?

Just to be clear, do you want to mute the speakers or the headphones?

I dont think BT can connect to multiple devices. Seems like there should be a product for this but i havent heard of it. You could always split the audio output to multiple headphone transmitters...assuming they dont all interfere with one another.

Yes you can. Most Bluetooth transmitters can pair at least 2 headphones at the same time.

The Bluetooth specification says it can support up to 7 connections simultaneously. But in practice, I have never seen this done. 2 seems to always be the limit the device allows.

I was about to post a link to a device promoting itself as a sort of access point that supported seven clients, but at the very end of the article there was a line: "discontinued".

Why take a chance with range and other potential BT issues?

Why not use some Sennheiser RF? I use them in a few medical offices and homes with multiple headsets and a single transmitter - no issues.

There are systems oriented to gyms that will work for you. It's been a couple of years, but I've seen one that had, I think, four programs transmitted via RF to headphones that could choose which channel to listen to.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I am supposing if the original thought was Bluetooth, the jump to specialized listening equipment with multiple channels will be a tremendous jump in price.

Interesting, I didn't know 72 MHz was legal for something like that.

Well, yeah... this is choosing more or less bulletproof products, intended to be loaned out to people who have no sense of ownership of the product and therefore have a higher likelihood of treating them badly.

I think under a watt or half watt there are things you can do...

I'm fine with RF. Is there any reason I shouldn't split the Line out to 6 separate RF bases paired with their respective headphones aside from its going to make the rack look like dog crap?

I think there are only two or three RF channels to choose from. This was true with the RS-110/120 units I have used in the past. That would determine how many separate base units can actually be wired.

All the headphones could switch between diff base stations.

Solved.

After talking to Sennheiser I'm going with 1 Sennheiser RS 120 II set and adding 5 pair of HDR 120 headphones.
