That underbrush vegetation, fallen trees etc decomposing is good for the soil and the forrests as a whole. Fire is good for the soil and the forrests as a whole. If there are pine cones that only open up at high temp they evolved that way for a reason.

Living in Oregon pretty much my whole life I can tell you fire season is beginning to look much more like fire seasons of California of the 80's. Could be an anomaly of the last decade or so. Could be the new normal.

Snow packs are way less then the 80s, summer dry season begins earlier and last longer. And Oregon has a shit load of fuel just waiting for a spark.

Even if you were to "rake the forrests" how does that even work? Is there a budget for that somewhere? A tax structure to support it?

The over all population of the state is staying the same but the smart and in large, the money crowd is leaving, just wish they would leave their California bullshit there, you left for a reason. They are then replaced by future voters, I mean people that want to be a drain on the government as its their right.
I have some friends that are trying to sell their multi million dollar loft in LA and cant get an offer let alone a reasonable one.

Most of the people moving out of California are young people that can't afford the housing costs.

Agreed. I've lived in the Portland area since 1991. Only in the last 5 years has a regular "fire season" been a thing.

That is a large part of it but the smaller population of wealthy are taking much more cash out of the state.

Why do you think they are trying to put a tax bill into place to tax you for 10 years if you move out of the state.

So before people and when a fire started, it burned until there was no more fuel to burn. Its a part of nature and the planet is designed to cope with it.
WE are the dumb shits freaking out over it, as well as the dumb shits starting the fires.

When the world is done with people it will rid itself of them, no amount of tree hugging will stop it or change that in any measurable amount in the sands of time.

I’m in southern Oregon and last week one of the local fires wiped out 2 1/2 towns.
The smoke in the area here is listed as hazardous. It’s been Smokey most summers for the last 15 years or so, it’s kind of like new season. We have the usual 4 and end of summer is shortened to add in smoke season.

The alameda fire as they are calling it took out 2300 +/- structures.

I was at the south end of the valley when it started and tried to get out before roads closed but didn’t get close, so had to go up over the pass around the mountain lakes and back down. My usual 12 miles drive turned into a 80 miles drive and 5 hours.
There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far.

I've spent the last week living in a level 3 (GET OUT) area.
I sent the family north to stay with other family members but stayed to deal with this disaster.
I stayed to protect my property from fire and potential looters!
I'm a fighter and never give up!
I don't care who the 'opponent' is!

Thankfully, the fires only came within a half mile, the looters didn't show up(at my house!), and we are now in a level 2 (get ready) zone as of today.

The smoke is horrendous and I'm praying for rain!

Now the work begins.

I'm going to volunteer to help the others that weren't as fortunate as us.
Every day is a good day.......some are just better than others!

Proud to say that my property is protected by a high speed wireless device!

Who is “they”?

And, that’s a stupid bill, presented at a time with no opportunity to properly vet it before the end of the session, that has no chance at passing. I believe it’s sponsors know that, and are just providing theater for their constituents.

According the the law enforcement agencies, "the looters" didn't show up to more than a half dozen or so locations throughout the entire state.

Or older people that are tired of being taxed to death, and have figured out they can lead twice the life, for half the money in a state like Texas

For most of the really wealthy, location is worth a lot more than the taxes and the price-per-square-foot of a mansion.

Thus, they should be saying there are no "looters"? Uh huh.

There sure are a lot of experts here on why there are so many wildfires in the west and why people may want to leave California and move to Texas.
Chasing Ernie's post count, one useless post at a time.
