Just reading the news this morning and everyone is talking about the smoke and air quality. Hope all of you and your families out there are safe.

Not only California, people my wife deals with in the Portland area are being evacuated. Crazy how much is being destroyed.
And to think one of the fires supposedly was started by some idiot having a gender reveal party and using pyrotechnics.

I heard another one was started by a homeless guy trying to burn another person’s tent too.

I think this is at least the second case of a fire started by a gender reveal party.

Fins,
I was going to send you a photo until I saw your email address isn't in your profile.

Two days ago I was going out for a few minutes and I took a photo of the sun. The sky was gray and the sun was a yellow-orange color. It was 6:15 PM. I'm in the Los Angeles area.

When I got back from the errand some fifteen minutes later, the sky was the same grayish color but there was not even a tiny hint that I was looking directly at the sun. The smoke was that thick.

A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

People are complaining about the smog in Vancouver, BC coming in from Oregon. Wonder if the smog should be in quarantine for 14 days 😜😜

It's pretty gross out here. Have been staying almost entirely inside since Thursday of last week- which is not a lot of fun with a 6 and 9 year old. I'm hoping the rain that is in the forecast for tonight comes in strong and helps with the fires and clearing the air. The wind that really made the fires explode in size through the middle of last week has just vanished now, so the smoke is just hanging in the air.

Edit: Portland guy

Normal September happenings.....nothing to see here. This happens literally every year. Some worse than others. Some areas worse this year than recent years. But it is fire season, like it or not.

All I know is that if they know who started some of these fires, they need to make an example of them. A 25-life sentence (life for sure if people died) ought to be enough to deter a few other boneheads from burning up half a state. I realize you cannot fix stupid, but even 1 less fire is worth it in my book.

Air quality not very good here in the Big Valley. Smoke combined with almond dust and corn flakes, due to harvest, makes it difficult to be outside. At least the temp is down to the nineties.

I am thinking that fires used to be a seasonal thing, but were pretty light weight except for every 10 years or so. Now the major fires seem to happen every single summer. That feels like a distinct change to me.

When they happened they did always happen in September or sometimes August or October. As far back as I can remember. But I don’t recall every year there being this many fires back in the 60s and 70s.

Many of the NorCal fires were caused by dry lightning. Not some numbskull nitwit.

I think climate change is partially responsible but there is no singular reason. It’s a perfect storm of too many people building in high risk places, some levels of forest mismanagement (aka not clearing away fuel build up), not allowing fires to burn the fuel (due to trying to save people’s homes in high risk ares), clear cutting forests which allows smaller fuel sources to grow and get a foothold and a few other reasons. Anyone that thinks it’s only global warming or forest mismanagement is too locked in to their political belief narrative

And yes the air quality has been horrid the last week.
Chasing Ernie's post count, one useless post at a time.

I read somewhere that when California was first explored/settled, it was reported that every year, 1.5 million acres burned from fires from natural causes.

Smoked corn flakes? I’ve never tried smoking cereal. Could be interesting.

I think they are way more frequent, and that it is way too easy for wacky people to light up dry grasses here and hightail it home to watch on TV.

The nutjob index here notches up every year without fail. Especially when those Midwest guys relocate 😀

The over all population of the state is staying the same but the smart and in large, the money crowd is leaving, just wish they would leave their California bullshit there, you left for a reason. They are then replaced by future voters, I mean people that want to be a drain on the government as its their right.
I have some friends that are trying to sell their multi million dollar loft in LA and cant get an offer let alone a reasonable one.
