Hi folks,

We are getting a 42" plasma with a Peerless universal mount. Our fireplace has a fake stone facade which is made up of concrete bricks.

At their thinnest, the bricks are 1" thick. Based on that, the portion of the façade the plasma will be mounted to weighs about 290 lbs. I assume whatever is holding the façade in place (strapping) can bear the extra 80lbs or so of mount and plasma (I do plan to perform the fat boy test).

My questions is what would be the best anchor. I'm thinking molly bolts.

Suggestions?

Thanks.

If the wiring is in place already it will make it easy for you to locate the studs. If thats the case the concrete lam bricks are very easy to drill through w/ a hammer drill. Just make sure you oversize the hole through the brick until you hit wood the then drill appropiate size hole for a lag. This will prevent you from cracking or popping the brick.

I'm not going for the studs, which is why I'm looking at molly bolts.

Sorry have not posted in a while....As has been mentioned many times on this board..The laws of physics will put the weight of the plasmas force in a downward posistion only...which will not require a whole lot of over engineering to accomplish...do the fat boy test whatever you do..and it should be fine....

Typically curtured stone is fastened to a plywood back. A few heavy mollys would do it if thats the case.

Just thought I'd post an update.

We used six mollys (Home Depot sells them 3 to a pack) to anchor the mount to the wall.

It passed the Fat Boyt test (244 lbs) and each individual bolt passed a modified version of the test: grabbed the bolt with vise grips and leaned back.
