The discussion about finding homes for Plasma TVs made me wonder what I would replace my KRP-600 or PRO-950 with. They both look great to me. Might need to refresh the gas though :-D At the same time one of my coworkers at Pioneer posted this link to a demo we used at CES in '08 or "09. It reminded me how much cutting edge technology was developed by Pioneer. Too bad the business wasn't sustainable after the collapse in 2009. Check this out. Not 4k on my TV but it looks great on the KRP-600. Wish I had one of the source discs. I need to find the HD hard drive media player we had for demoes during that time period to see what's on it.
This topic reminds me of one of the first times I went to CES. This was one of the years where there was a humongous tent (or were three two?) all filled with video games.
At someone's booth they had a demo about 6" square of a new kind of technology they were going to call "plasma." There was a note by the thing to tell us that if this unit had been put into production, the price would have been around $100,000 or so. For a six inch square.
I'm sure I've got the numbers wrong, but the scale of the size and the price are as ludicrous as that first sample was.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything. "The biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place." -- G. “Bernie” Shaw
I'm still using the last models Pioneer built in '08. They continue to look amazing and IMO, rival the best OLEDs in 1080p mode.
I've compared my Kuro's to QLED and LED TVs and the Pioneer looks better to me. Not sure if it's the scaling or what, but the Pioneer TVs don't have that mottled look and appear sharper.

You need to watch this video from Vincent, a very well respected calibrator. He is using the last high-end plasma ever produced (the Panny 60ZT65), which was regarded as slightly better then the Kuro. He talks briefly about that, at the end of the video. Spoiler: The consensus is OLED beats plasma in most categories.
That Panasonic came after our Pioneer video engineers moved to Panasonic. I'm sure there are some 4K and new 8K models that look better but ... I'll use my Kuros until they die. (Might have something to do with the lack of coin for a high-end set.)
I'm making Kuro memories for the first time. Last month I upgraded the Panasonic 720p plasma in my home office. Purchased another 720p plasma, but one that accepts 1080p signals. Scored a mint PDP-5080HD off EBay. It's a thing of beauty. Provides a jaw dropping image. Best $60 I ever spent.

My brother- and sister-in-law bought a house about 7 months ago that had a media system I would have killed for back in 2008- Vienna Acoustics speaker set, JL subwoofer, Denon 5805 AVR, and a PDP-5080HD Elite plasma.
He proceeded to hang his 75" Vizio on the wall opposite where the plasma was and was certain that the picture of the Pioneer wouldn't be able to compete because "it's not even 1080". He was disappointed when I split the HDMI out of his cable box and ran both screens at the same time.

If he hung the Vizio on the opposite wall, that means the speaker setup wasn't being used at all either. WTF!?!?!

Yep still got a few of those Panasonics out there with the handles in the upper corners on the back those things are tanks
I love the handles! Makes it so easy to move. And yeah, "tank" is the right word. :-P I was perfectly content with my Panasonic TH-50PH9UK truth be told. The only reason I picked up the PDP-5080HD was for the 1080p support. Well, and I did always want to own a Kuro. Storing the Panasonic in the back of my bedroom closet now. Don't have the heart to get rid of it. (I have 3 extra HDMI boards if anyone finds they're in need of one. If so, just send me a PM and I'll hook you up for cheap.)

I had a contractor doing some work here at the house the other day who had just purchased their first 4K set. They were equally impressed with my PDP-5080HD and flabbergasted to learn it was only 720p. They offered me $300 on the spot for it. I respectfully declined. :-)

Like all of you i am a huge fan of plasma but the sheer size of the 75/85" 4K TV's available now have my mouth watering. I cannot wait until my 60" LG dies. I removed the surge protector and plugged it straight into the wall lol.

That's funny. Be careful what you wish for though. I had a lightening strike ride into my home a couple months ago. I got to upgrade a whole mess of things as a result. Wasn't much fun. :-P

Put a humidifier under it also...you know, for air quality.
