Hi all.

I have a customer that needs to watch and control tivo and dvd in his master bedroom.

unfortunately, the only wire available is one cat-5 and one coax.

I would like to install a tivo/dvd combo unit that outputs on rf, so that I can have the signal running straight into the tv over one coax, and set the tv to channels 3 or 4.

So far all Tivo dvd combos I have inspected spec the rf output as "tuner passthrough or bypass only", meaning to me that they simply pass the raw cable signal, not signals from the tivo and dvd.

I need the Cat-5 for ir control.

Does anyone know of a combo that truly outputs tivo and dvd on rf?

here are the units I have inspected --

-- toshiba combo unit.

-- humax drt800

-- pioneer DVR-810H-S

Thanks for the help.

Oh, and yes, the tivo must be mounted remotely in the MEC.

Unless I'm not reading this right, you could add an RF modulator to any of them.
A/V in , ch 3 out.

Yes, that's an option, if neccesary. Which modulator would you suggest? the coax run is about 200 feet.

I primarily use channel plus on retro's because it also has an IR engine to allow control. Since you have a cat 5 run, any brand should work.

Baseband is another term for composite. Technically speaking, component might be called Baseband, too, so when he wrote baseband/composite, he was actually trying to lessen the confusion.

Didn't work, did it?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Thanks for the input. Now, if a were to go composite, with audio over cat-5, that would allow me to bring any source switched through a reciever to the master bedroom.

Does anyone have a preference for recievers with zone 2 video out ?
One with independant ir codes for source switching over zone 2?

Thanks for the help. I love this forum.
