Does anyone know if the Sonos S2 interface is going to affect current drivers that integrate 3rd party controllers? I wondered if there was a possibility they are giving more access to their API or if it's going to make things more difficult.

There could always be changes down the road, but I don’t expect that there will be any problems out of the gate.

Control of both the current and legacy product on the same controller will probably not be possible because they will be separate systems sharing the same network. I think that it would be tricky, but possible to control both.

S2 will have NO third party drivers at launch, was told they are working on it for a future update.
S2 is going to be very bumpy for us as there are so many if/and/or scenarios. We expect to get deluged this week with questions. We are only recommending S2 if no legacy components are on the system and no drivers are present.

I’m recommending to my customers that they press PAUSE on that update unless they have one of the newly released units that will arrive momentarily.

Control4 sent an email today stating that S1 and S2 will work with their drivers, including "hybrid" systems with both S1 and S2 products.

Replaced an RMA’d connect:amp today on an S1 setup. Would not allow any actions without updating app and devices. Not sure that’ll be possible.

So far S2 doesn't seem to be a huge leap. I had to factory reset my speakers to get them working in the new platform...I read something about permanently grouping zones together. I couldn't find a way to do that but it would be a cool feature for some customers that have to keep regrouping things after updates or power loss.

S2 app sucks. I set up a new system today and went ahead and used it to try to prevent an issue later. I didn’t realize until it was too late that today was the release day.

This made me spit my coffee out! I read TC is good, C4 can support all versions, then RTI didn't even know it was happening. LOL

They did know it was happening. I meant to say they had no idea how it would affect their driver.

I updated my system at home and did not really see much of a change in the UI. I am guessing the new OS is just laying groundwork for high res, and other additional features down the road.

S2 opens up Atmos for the the Arc, Play5Gen3, SubGen2, potential for High Res audio, more CEC control, permanent room grouping, etc.

S2 also works with Lutron and Sonance Keypads.

S1 and S2 also work with URC Total Control. I haven't tried a split system, but that might be a nice feature to have.
