Has anyone here used the DW CaaS cameras and can comment on their reliability and ease of use. Client with a DW system at another residence which we did not have anything to do with and he loves it. Asked if I could upgrade his cameras here. Wondering how well the on board VMS and storage solution works and how easy it is to archive event footage to a NAS. I'm assuming I can add the new cameras to the same DW app he uses to view his other NVR with.

I grabbed one a while back to test on a back patio for a client.  Even the larger internal storage card was not enough for me.  I like to have a minimum of 30 days worth of recordings and we were getting about 10-14 days from this in an area with little traffic.

How many cameras are able to store 30 days of video and at what resolution?

With 1TB microSD cards available now, just about every IP camera can do 30 days at a fairly high resolution these days (depending on activity).

Looked at that CaaS, does DW really not allow you to expand the memory yourself on the cams, with a microSD? That's crappy.
Also, the big disadvantage with edge recording is; if they steal or destroy the camera... there goes your footage. Not a fan.

Is the other NVR running Spectrum? That's what the CaaS is running. I'd make sure you use the same OS so the app and experience match what he already has.

If it is Spectrum, I'd recommend a PC running Spectrum for the reasons already pointed out. For most residential installations, a Dell Optiplex with an M.2 SSD OS drive and 1 or 2 large storage drives works great. DO NOT use the DW blackjack servers, way overpriced!

I installed a Spectrum system a few years ago. The software was pretty cool compared to most basic VMS from companies like Hikvision I thought. At the time the apps for mobile devices still sucked though. Do you install much of Spectrum, and, if so, is the mobile app decent these days?

I only do systems with external storage/NVR so all of them.  I liked the idea for budget 1 or 2 camera systems which is why I wanted to test it.

I started doing Spectrum pretty recently so I've only had experience with v4 but I've really been impressed. I'm planning on using it exclusively going forward.

The software on the desktop is a much better experience than anything I've used in the past and better than using a browser. I think the mobile app is good but don't use it on a daily basis so there may be shortcomings I'm not aware of. They have added the motion search feature to the app so you can draw a box and it will return search results with motion in that area, which is pretty cool.

Yeah the variou tools for searching through past video were far superior to the calendar scheme most NVRs Use.

Have you used any facial recognition within Spectrum? Curious if it’s an option
