Looking for a solution for an outdoor sport court. There is a building adjacent to the court with power, but no internet service. Looking for something simple that owners and guests could connect to wirelessly from their phone with Spotify Connect or similar. Building is already wired for 1 pair of surface mount outdoor speakers. Amp could be in-wall or on-wall mounted.

Airport express will work for iOS, w/o internet. Bluetooth as a plan B.

Does the Airport Express audio output have variable output or fixed?

Can you use an Android phone with Spotify Connect with an Airport Express or this iPhone/Airplay only?

Isn't the Airport Express discontinued?

Discontinued for a long time now, yes. If android, and or Spotify are required a Sonos Port in an enclosure is your plan B.

Use a point-to-point kit to obtain plan B with the added feature of WiFi.

If you want great range, look at the Miccus BT receiver/transmitter- it has a switch that allows using it as either and if it's just a simple receiver, the range is still amazing. I used this at a school gym a couple of years ago and when I tested it here in my garage, I started walking away from it as I streamed from my iPhone. It never dropped out by the time I gave up trying, well over 150' away. My driveway is over 100' long, I was across the street and had walked the sidewalk on the opposite side- at one point, my house was in the way and it still didn't drop out. You still need to pair the phone to it, but if you'll have one of them in the vicinity, it's not a problem. Out of the box, it's set to announce that the pairing was successful, but that can be defeated.

It's $50. It also has two inputs and can pair to two different devices at one time. Until that day, I was in the "Bluetooth sucks!" camp but that changed. The one I installed is backstage and three concrete block walls are between the floor of the gym and the receiver.
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."

I found this guy for a project where client has requested bluetooth. I have no experience with it but I imagine since its a "class1" device it will work just as well as Highfighs reciever worked!

As far as range, the BT spec is more important but the Denon is BT 4.0, so that explains the 100 foot range.

The antenna can be placed where needed with both since they use the RP-SMA type connections.

Thanks for the ideas. I'm looking for a simple 1 piece solution. Something like a Sonos Amp that doesnt require an internet connection but has direct Bluetooth capability. The building is not line of site from the main house, so point-to-point Ubiquiti systems won't work. Its too far away for Eero or other mesh systems to reach as well.

Use the denon directly into a amp!
