Maybe some of you use some other brands than I do.

20+ year old B&W Signature Seven in walls have bad tweeters.

Sonance, Episode, most have a similar footprint. These have a 9-3/4 x 13-1/4" cutout and finished size is 11-1/4 x 14-3/4".

They are wider and not as tall as most I see. I can go bigger but not smaller.

These have 7" woofers. 8" based systems are still not quite wide enough.

Wonder if you've had to figure this out before. Thanks!

Contact B&W to see if they have replacement tweeters?

$86 each on their website. Don't see the value in a speaker this age.

May look for a replacement at Parts Express.

Well worth it. Those are great In-walls.

Monitor Audio X80 series are a little over 9.5" wide an will fit though, Couple inches taller as well so that wont be a problem.

What's the cost so far in time spent trying to solve this? If you do eventually find a solution, what will that cost you?

That's a lot of money but it's a solution... versus whatever price with zero solution.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I have to ask, did the customer not like the B&W? Did they have buyer's remorse after spending all that money 20 years ago, because they are tone deaf (or not into music) and couldn't appreciate the quality?

I'm just trying to understand why after having great speakers for so many years, they don't care to fix them and just throw in something crappy to replace it.

Wow, that is great. So many brands, it takes someone who knows those other options.

The family just bought the place and have no affection or non-affection for these, except they sound like squat right now.

Will seek the best solution. Thanks to all for excellent feedback.

Knowing that distortion is generally the reason for dead tweeters, I think spending $86 to replace each tweeter and take a minute to adjust the level is a pretty painless way to fix the problem.

Those B&Ws are pretty legit in wall speakers. I've installed and heard them in several projects back in the day. I think MSRP was $1k each? For around $200, it's a no brainer to swap the tweets.

But I admit to doing the same thing...... Remove something broken and install something new vs tracking down parts to fix whatever it is I don't sell. Do whatever you feel is the best solution. And whatever makes the customer happiest.

Funny in a world of new phones every couple years we are wanting to keep a 24 year old set of speakers in the rotation.

I do see the quality, butyl is good practically forever, unlike foam.

Second time in a week actually - I left a 27 year old set in the ceiling at another client home. I thought they were as good as the middle grade new one I might put in instead.

My favorite speaker of all time will work without issue...But it'll cover it in a BIG way.

So, with lots of background repairing and rebuilding broken speakers, I found it hard to believe that four of these things could all have blown tweeters. So I spent quite a bit of time troubleshooting them. Ended up putting a pair of Peerless decent quality tweeters in, and they are good to go for another 23 years!

Thanks for all who chipped in with great advice.
