On Tuesday I encountered my first XI6 and I was able to use it with a 3rd party router and access point arrangement and use the APPs. In this configuration one cannot watch the TV channels, but this is exactly the use case that the customer wanted. This box was given over the counter to the customer with no monthly charges.

Yesterday I encountered an XI5 with another customer who wants TV channels and has the Comcast Gateway. This is a new install. The Comcast gateway's WiFi has no chance of covering this house. And, the XI5 would not sign-on to the WiFi, claiming that it might be out of range -- at about one foot! It would not setup with with a wired connection either. Perhaps I have a bad box.

In any case, does anyone know if I can use 3rd party access points to support a household with two XI5's and one XI6? I'm seeing conflicting accounts of this while searching online.

On the XI5 I was given no opportunity to specify my own SSID WPS was the only option. The XI6 I worked with earlier offered this without any fuss. Since I planned to use Ubiquiti In-wall access points, WPS is not an option.

I am also planning to use a Ubiquiti USG.

I have used it with Eero and Ubiquiti UAC-APPRO in the last few months. There was a time when it only seemed to work if you were using their equipment but I think something changed and it works aside from theirs now.

What’s your take on picture quality? Wasn’t too impressed, we have only seen one and it was on a 55” the frame.

In general I'm not impressed with the Comcast picture quality. I didn't have enough time to make an critical judgement for the XI5 and XI6. XI5 is not 4K. I have a USB stick that Sony gave out at CEDIA with some good 4K material. I usually let customers view the samples as a demonstration of what the TV is capable of.

I was back at that installation today and proved that one of the XI5 boxes is defective. The second XI5 box signed on to the wireless without a fuss. I did observe that the XI5 is not as responsive to commands from the remote.

These are voice remotes. One can ask for "4K" and be led to a few 4K feeds.
