Believe it or not, Brendon and I are quite good friends.  It's hard to believe considering what an a*hole he is, but it's true.  But that's not the point.

Brendon is actually an extremely talented woodworker..(Hence all the Festool love).  He's done some great custom wood work on his AV projects, makes custom TV frames, sweet ass soundbar boxes,  crazy-ass nightstands, all types of stuff.

I've told him to pursue that, but he doesn't think there's much of a market for it, other than his AV customers.

You really need some better friends.
Civil War reenactment is LARPing for people with no imagination.

LOL thanks for the laugh! Most of my friends as big of an a$$hole as I am or bigger, we are a herd.

Think things that people will always need / have to have and service that industry, food, shelter, clothes and transportation.

Needs are always there, wants ebb and flow.

If he is that good, he is thinking too small. Between here and IP one would think he has a pretty decent sized clientele of people that could sell his stuff to their clients.

Those that pursue their passions are the ones that tend to make it. So, he SHOULD go for it. Hell, it can even start as a side business.

The exact thing I told him, he's already got the complete set up.  I'd imagine guys on here and IP would be happy to buy some of his stuff once they saw what he can do.

To be able to have a conversation with a wood worker that also knows exactly what it is AV guys do for a living and exactly what they're looking for, could be really good for everyone involved.

Unfortunately that is still all stuff folks want but don’t need.

Insurance is where you need to look. You can’t do anything without it these days. You can’t drive, work (as a bus owner) etc. You need it for medical, your home.. the list goes on.

Client of mine lives down the street and asked to have a socially distant beer yesterday. He owns a brokerage and mentioned hiw his business is rarely effected by these situations and he’s never had to lay anyone off. That’s pretty amazing

Used to be the bar biz was bullet proof. People are happy, they drink. People are sad, they drink.

This is the first time I've seen the bar biz on the ropes.

A real quality carpenter can make a great living, but that too can be cyclical, as all construction things are.

I have a relative that does cabinets. Through his talents with building custom cabinets, and the expanding into also using box cabinets, he built and paid for a million dollar plus show room. Yes, his biz is off, but is still making money.

Bottom line, do what makes you happy. If this biz has you wondering "Why?", you do need to find a way out.
