Preventative measures are really escalating in Canada. Lot’s of things getting cancelled including school for the next three weeks in Ontario. They don’t want the same thing here happening in Italy

I wish that we could get over the blame game and start disseminating good information and establishing a good action plan.

Lack of early, effective quarantines and testing hurt the cause. All along the response has seemed like an ostrich with it's head in the sand.

Many of us have relatively small shops. Could we withstand a quarantine, potentially multiple quarantines, that would essentially close the shop? Truck rolls to support customers would be out of the question for a quarantined tech.

Everyone effected must seriously honor a quarantine. I'm not worried about our customers, but I can imagine that some quarantined individuals would seize the opportunity to invite trades into the home since the customer will not need to juggle their own work schedules.

You mean like Chuck Schumer blaming the president for not taking action earlier. but saying nothing about the house or senate not taking action?

I think some of the inaction early on was not wanting to cause panic. Not knowing how to take the correct steps.

Not sure how many will survive this, anymore than how many didn't survive the 08 bubble burst.

No doubt that the guys operating on a shoestring will go under, and other than have planned for slowdowns, will duffer some pain, but will pull through it.

I honestly believe, if it gets bad enough, we will have martial law. It CAN happen.

"The Buck Stops Here" does not apply to the Senate Minority Leader.

I guess this is as good as a time as any... to bring up the Sonos share price.

Aside from that, there will be some businesses who are sitting on the 'fringe' that will go under. Malls are empty... retail will be hurting even more than it has been.
But if you're an on-line service provider (Netflix etc) expect to see a lot of people sitting at home signing up (if they're not already).
This industry is not getting cheaper and cheaper, we're simply convincing ourselves that we have to push the cheapest option to customers.

If any of you know about Audioholics, the founder just posted early this morning that he tested positive for Coronavirus and had symptoms for 7-8 days, after meeting with someone who, as it turns out, had been in China recently. That wasn't disclosed at the time of the meeting. Gene is 46 and feels like crap. He'll be quarantined for 14 days.

Gene posted a video this morning as well.

He seems to be doing better- someone mentioned Panera soup on Facebook and he sounded very interested.

Malls are empty...

They may be empty, but grocery stores are packed.

This is as good a place to ask-

Would it be wrong to recommend to store managers to put up signs telling customers that, if they want to use the automated checkout, that they have a freaking clue about how it works????????????????

Now that even Costco has installed some self check out registers, it is REALLY an adventure.

Nothing like watching someone with a overflowing cart try to scan things where there is no place to put items before returning them to the cart.

Costco needs a HUGE sign stating 10 items or less to use the self check out. But, most wouldn't pay any attention anyway.

I hit Costco when the doors open, or I don't go at all. Same with the local grocery store.

I don’t have a Costco near me, but I do have a BJ’s Wholesale. They’ve had, at least at my nearest store, the self check outs for a few years. And there’s always a cart at the end so when the belt gets full the cart can be filled. This works great with two people though. Depending how slow they are, an employee can help.

However, a year ago they got rid of one of them and made 3 “10 or under” self check outs. They are exactly how the self check outs are at Home Depot, just no plastic bags.

I find it ironic, how we are in the service business, but talk about tips to use self service DIY to check out; because of wait times, limited employees, and poor employer training. Hmm

Support yourself, and use the attendant aisle, create jobs, boycott the DIY and robots. Demand service! Ask to speaker to a manager.

Stop shopping and the warehouse clubs, support the mom and pop local grocery stores.

;)
