Wow, apparently I offended you by trying to have a civil debate.
If by this you're referring to me, I was not offended and I apologise if you think my reply suggests such.
Like you, I am concerned that people take the issue seriously, but am also concerned by 'sensational' reports which purport to offer undue certainty (primarily as a result of their supposed prestige and the number of authors involved). They foment unrest when latched upon by a voracious media (the BBC are revelling in their role of doom-monger general) and, as I previously suggested, they can lead to poor decision making when used as a foundation for policy. How, for example, does one now quantify the lasting effects of Western Nations shutting down their economies? Will be the final body count be higher or lower than those afflicted (and will be afflicted) by COVID-19?
As for my personal experience, you may well be right. Indeed, even I assumed it to be flu as, no doubt, would have a doctor had I sought medical advice – at that time, COVID-19 had yet to enter the general lexicon. There, however, is the rub. Though I can describe what I experienced, you have no real understanding of it. Again, as I previously said, if it was flu, it was a flu like no other I have ever experienced. You have also ignored the incidence of my wife's sudden and coincidental episode of 'tonsillitis'.
The first recorded case in the UK may well have been January 31st, but how can we be sure that it was not here sooner and simply misdiagnosed?
P.S. I'm appreciative of your being Canadian. I checked.

Hey dude, no worries.
I also worry about the economics of this as well and there is certainly a lot BS media reporting.
In regards to wife, I don't know, I am not doctor. Maybe she had the same flu with different symptoms , covid, a different strain of flu, who knows. I didn't ignore it, I just didn't comment on it. Neither of your timelines work with the first know case.
When an antibody test becomes readily available for you and your wife you can find more definitively whether you have been infected or not.
Occasionally a folk medicine cure turns out to be effective and the establishment faces a few "I told you so" shouts. Overall, (for everyone's protection from dangerous side effects and scammers) we should stick with the proven clinical trial methodology. I'm a little suspicious of the article because in the likely time frame of the treatments, I don't think that 350 patients could have been tested and proven to have been suffering from COVID-19 -- given that the test was not readily available in that interval.

Sure, if you really believe any of the data that China has put out..
As for anyone else, Italy has the population of California, Oregon and Washington combined and that's it so simplifying this to a numerical total vs cases per 100,000 is meaningless unless your only goal is to spread propaganda or show proof of a political position to a populace that is too stupid to understand statistics.

I guess some here believe that China has been very truthful.
Personally, I believe they have lied, just like they always do. For all we know, there could be a million dead in China. China does have a way of hiding what they don't want known.

Of course the Chicoms are lying about how many people died. The same way they lied about how the wuflu started. Chicoms lie about everything. They are an F'd up breed.

Did you get your annual Flu Shot?
As it so happens, I've never availed myself of such a thing – I could never understand why anyone would want to get flu. I was going to reply intimating as such, but never got around to it (and then the moment passed). Now, however, in comments to an article about Stephan Lewandowsky's latest load of conspiratorial twaddle* I wonder if I have an answer as to why the question was posed in the first place...
Utter nonsense of course, but I do find the linking of COVID to 5G amusing, particularly with BoJo having now got it. Perhaps, during his self-isolation, he’ll reconsider his ridiculous decision to allow Huawei’s involvement in the UK’s 5G network.

USA is working very hard to be #1 at this. Currently in the #3 spot behind China and Italy. 6000 more reported cases and we got this! 216 people died yesterday in the US. So glad this has been blown out of proportion by the media.
I've actually been watching the US stats over the last few weeks and also been reading your presidents media speeches/reports etc. Said to my Mrs that you guys were in big trouble with this guy at the helm.
I'm now actually watching him talk to the media in TV and well yeah.... He basically hasn't stopped talking about how amazing him and his presidency has been over the last 3 years. You guys are in a bit of strife.
We've got about 3500 cases here in Australia and our government has just about brought the country to a standstill to try and stamp this virus out. This time next week, the US will be close to 200,000 cases of the virus and this peanut will still be in front of the camera talking about how well he has done and his magical cure that will be ready really really tremendously amazingly soon.
