If I change out for a new keypad, does it need to be programmed, or is the programming stored in the base unit?

About 13 years old, looks like it may be a “display pad”.

I just replaced a 10 year old keypad for an Essentia. Selected what zone it was to control and done in 5 minutes. No programming.

So the new keypad, upon start up, asks what zone it needs to control?

yep... Id suggest you power down the concerto box. unplug bead kp, power up the concerto, then plug in new kp. It will prevent the concerto from thinking there is a kp already in that spot and controlling that zone.
I'm Not an engineer, but I play one on TV.
My handle is Tweety but I have nothing to do with the organization of similar name. I just had a really big head as a child so folks called me tweety bird.

Thank you, that is great advice. I found out that this original Concerto is not compatible with any of the new keypads. Fortunately there was a NOS on eBay, and I found one there. Will know where I stand in a couple weeks!
