I just saw this and am seriously trying to figure out how to build one. The lift would be easy with a tv lift. But how do you get the drawers to work? Is this a problem for Ernie?

Got one in mind? How do you control them?

Wouldn't a magnetic or RFID lock be better and a faster way to gain access? I don't know what they used for the actuator, but I have to ask "What happens if the power goes out?". Obviously, the vertical concealment would need something like a TV lift. The one in the video is very noisy- Nexus 21 sells a European brand that's extremely quiet and can be controlled via RF or IR an IIRC, they're heading toward IP control (may already have it).

I'm going out on a limb to say that HighFigh doesn't own guns.  You're trying to talk common sense solutions to people who don't have any, and don't want any.  What do we want?  John Wick gun cabinets. :)

Yeah this isn’t about quick access. It’s coolness factor. I don’t lock up the ones I use for home defense.

You would be wrong, but I want fast access, not something that would make me tell the intruder "Hang on, while this opens and looks pretty", "Give me a minute" or "Pretty cool, eh?". OTOH, if you have some acreage, a warning system and the time between a turd entering the property and reaching the house allows you to retrieve the weapon(s) of choice, clean it/them, load some rounds and do a few test fires, that's cool. Personally, I would prefer the latter.

The "Common sense" solution, for some (too many)- hide guns throughout the place, for easy access. Great if it's impossible for someone to break in and find them, but not so much if they can.

If you want coolness factor, why not get these?

You just use the Blum servo drive drawer sliding system.

Easy!

I'm using a 12volt switch to operate the linear actuator in the car.

Works like the parking brake on the brides Ford Fusion. A momentary switch powers on the actuator, and the onboard actuator stops limit travel.

One tap and it opens, one tap and it closes.

I suppose there would be a way to control the switch with some sort of IR or IP relay rather than a hidden switch though, but I am not at that level of figuring things out.

P.S. I just happen to have the guts from an old SnapAV cabinet lift. It works well.
