XBR43X800G VS QN43Q60RAFXZA

Picture quality for just TV shows from cable box + streaming.

Need a composite video in if possible.
What are your thoughts on these? Is this the best 43" money can buy?

Wait until the new Sony 49" XBR950H comes out, then you'll have the best "small" TV available.
Also check LG, etc., seems they are bringing 48" models to market, but when?

43" TV
Sony entry level TVs are horrible. You should never use those except for Sony fans. You have to go to Sony's higher models before they become competitive and stand out.
This is a perfect example. The Samsung is about the same price or cheaper and it beats that model Sony in every way. And you know I don't like Samsung :)

43" TV
That TCL mentioned is for extreme budget jobs. It is a good value for the money (less than 1/2 the price of the Sony or Samsung) but overall its performance sucks - it just beats everything at its price point. Also please note: HDR means nothing on the S4 series. It just means it can process an HDR signal, it has NO additional light output to actually show HDR. In fact, it is much dimmer than the Samsung - average of 200nits vs. 400nits in HDR.

43" TV
Also as mentioned, you should look at the LG 43". They have models at the same price point as the Sony & Samsung mentioned. And I believe it to be very competitive to the Samsung.

Why’s that funny? The OP listed that as a requested feature.

Sony has the composite in.
It is a $600 43"! Is that Entry level at the 800 series?
Clients currently have a dying panasonic plasma in a custom frame I made over ten years ago, so only a 43 will fit in there. There is an old wirepath DVR that replaced a Dedicated Micros video recorder that goes to a extron composite video splitter/ amplifier. Not used a lot, but handy for the wifey when she wants it.
Sony also has the rear IR input, but i cannot remember if that newer model uses the three or two conductor 1/8" plug.
RTI / XP6 controls the house TVs now that the crestronTP6 panels all died.
TCL have discrete input/ power commands? Never used a control system with one

TCL has dedicated power commands. You can set the power on input in the menu.

It's Roku

Cool. Thanks for the input. I did not know TCL did that either.

The first time I ran across the brand TCL, I thought it might have been a throwaway brand. Since then I've learned that they sell A LOT OF TVs. This of course does not specifically mean a thing when you're thinking of quality. But... here are the top eight TV manufacturers, ranked only by sales figures.

Samsung
LG
Sony
Hisense
TCL
Skyworth
Panasonic
Vizio
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I can for sure my series 5 TCL 43" roku tv responds to discrete input commands. But an older 55" Insignia that uses the same IR code set as the TCL, doesn't.

My model # is 43S517.
