I use Control4 exclusively for control, but have a situation where C4 probably doesn’t make sense and instead I should rely on CEC. However, I have very little experience with CEC so am hoping for some tips.

The client has a 4K ATV in to a Samsung frame TV, which then sends audio via ARC to a B&O Beosound Stage speaker bar. From what I gather, the client ought to be able to control everything from the ATV remote assuming CEC is properly setup on all devices. (By “everything”, I mean the ATV, plus TV power and input, plus B&O power, input and volume.)

Am I correct about how this should work in principle?

Aside from RTFM and testing out what I can on my bench, any tips on how to proceed and what to watch out for? Thanks.
If it's not simple, it's not sufficiently advanced.

I have done similar setup with Sony TVs, Samsung TVs, and LG TVs, Apple TV, and several different soundbars....Klipsch and SONOS Beam being the only ones we supplied. Probably some samsung or LG customer provided soundbars along the way. It seems to work just fine as you say....using the Apple TV remote...or the TV remote if you hate the Apple TV remote. But if you have an LG TV, both remotes suck, so put in C4. :)

As always, test before you sell. Or at least have a plan B.

A simple system such as this will probably work OK, however, you should check to see what happens when the turn OFF sequence varies if the customer uses multiple remotes.

For example, I’ve been bitten in a system that was almost as simple: TV, A/V Receiver, Blu-ray, cable box. If one first turned OFF the TV, when the Blu-ray timed out and shut down, the cable box would turn ON the TV and select its input. Since I was using a control system, I could disable CEC and change the order of commands, this was not much of an issue, but it is a detail to check. Another annoyance is the cable box that updates in the middle of the night, then turns ON.

This is all good of course until somebody pushes a firmware update that illogically throws everything out of whack

To date, I have never had CEC work 100% of the time. Just not worth the risk of having to roll a truck for the odd times it does not work... If the client insists, let them know it is purely experimental and may not always work.

I do it with one device such as Roku. If there are two or more sources or an AVR, I insist on a URC remote or wish good luck.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.
