Yes it's just you. NP is regarded (by other drummers) to be one of the best to ever play, often mentioned in the same breath as Ginger Baker, Keith Moon & Bonham.

Maybe it’s just the bands popularity, long run or the songs in general. Hell, I can’t figure out why anyone likes the Beatles.
Or the Doors, Neil Young, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Meatloaf and Lizzo. i like all kinds of music and I give all a chance. I have tried with these folks but I just don't get it. Doesn't make them bad just not my liking.
I am not a Rush fan but my wife surprised me with tix to see them a few years ago - it was quite a show (except for all the 20 stupid college kids sitting in front of me that were having a social gathering with a concert in the background)
Speaking of - anyone going to the the Crue (we lied to you) tour?
I AM responsible for typographical errors! I have all the money I will ever need - unless i buy something..

I can sit through a lot more things when it’s live that I otherwise wouldn’t care for. This goes for concerts and sports. I used to say the same about Ballet too. But if I never see another performance of the Nutcracker it will be too soon
Civil War reenactment is LARPing for people with no imagination.
This is easily the stupidest thread I have recently seen on RC....we might as well be back to arguing phones....
Dont get Rush?
Dont get the Beatles?
You people are killin me.....
Jack Rainey - Full disclosure...reformed integrator, now mid-Atlantic manufacturers rep for: Integra, Paradigm, Anthem, Parasound, Atlona, LG TV's and Metra Home Theater...among others
Dude is really good, for sure. However, he's playing for Guitar Center, not for a band that pushed their genre (prog rock) for decades on the radio and in hundreds of stadiums around the world for millions of people. That's what makes greatness.
Exactly. I don't pick drummer based on drum solo competitions. Frankly I don't think Jerome's solo is that great. Now I jumped flash forwarded 7 years (2016) and Tony Taylor's solo is a much more concise solo and has great flow.
Here is one of Neil's concert solo's.
Yes Neil has like 100 more pieces. Although, whose to say if any of these Guitar Center winners could play a set with substantially more pieces. Although, in the solo pieces are more played in groups. 1/2 the set is regular percussion instruments and the other half incorporates the electronic drums. For the regular songs the drums from half the set are utilized. Plus you also have to remember Neil's concert solo is after playing like 1.5 hrs and then playing another 1.5hrs of thereafter. Not the same as going all out on performing a 5min solo. Not discounting the musical ability of any of these drummers. They are all great But writing music and playing at Neil's level for like 40+ years and getting that amount of music out of a band with just 3 members is downright amazing.
Are there drummers better than Neil Peart? I'm sure there are (especially more recently), but I'd bet most of them would list Neil Peart as someone who influenced them and their playing. I was a mediocre bass player in my teens & 20’s and spent countless hours listening to and playing Rush songs trying to nail down Geddy Lee’s bass lines.
Neil seems like a guy I would have enjoyed sharing a drink or taking a bike ride with so sad to see him gone so soon. I lost a friend to the same type of brain cancer last year. He was even younger than Neil Peart and died within 8 months of his diagnosis.
Somewhat related… The band Nerf Herder recorded a song based on my wife called “The Girl Who Listened to Rush”. Her and the lead singer are childhood friends and my wife got him listening to bands like Led Zepplin, Blue Oyster Cult, The Doors, Rush, etc. when they were kids.
If you’re a Rush fan, take a listen. It’s a fun song (kind of a Rush parody). The bridge is a little drawn out, but if you can get past that there are some Peart Riffs in the last verse. Parry said they recorded the song on the same console Rush used for some of their albums.
Here’s the youtube link or you can find it on Spotify: "
