I’m a bit underwhelmed this year. Haven’t seen anything that scratches an itch or excites me about new opportunities.
TVs have gone off the rails. I don’t have any customers asking for better image quality. They just want bullet proof operation. Yet, pretty much all we are seeing is manufacturers obsessed with squeezing a bit more clarity and contrast out of their lineup. My customers are all human. Their retinas don’t care about 8K for typical TV viewing.
Anyone see anything from the show that they’re excited about?
If it's not simple, it's not sufficiently advanced.
Based on the pictures that LG was showing, I couldn’t judge the ultimate picture quality. There is a big box associated with the display. In general I don’t think that this will be appreciated for ceiling mounts, but as a popup it’s great. I wasn’t entirely pleased when side light was reflected from the screen because the screen surface was “lumpy”, but this was visible only when the screen was dark.
I also thought that the SONY’s were best, but not by as much as in previous years. Everyone is now using some sort of enhanced processor.
Backlit SAMSUNG’s continue to annoy me because the lighting is not uniform. But, customers don’t seem to notice.
8K is for forum geeks and won't make it into mainstream for at least a couple of years... if at all. Now for commercial signage, it's a different story.
The biggest stories for me have been the leaked video of new AVR's that was then taken down (clearly defying an NDA). If Sony or XBox had given a definitive date for their new gen console releases it would have changed CES a whole lot, but ultimately it does make me wonder what ISE / High End in Munich have to offer.

Uniform .75" thickness on a premium OLED? it is what the wall paper should have been years ago.

My concern is the cheap stuff has gotten pretty good. If the price gap is too large, will be a harder sell. Going to see a lot more, got discrete codes for xyz?
Starts with 'Y' and has new casework + HDMI 2.1 However, it's pretty much restricted to leaked pics and top-line specs.

This looks pretty cool. Is there an outboard box for connections I'm assuming?
That is a negative....all on-board......75" thick and wall mountable only with included mount. It will take some planning to get the input area and power inputs right.
