Now the shoe is on the other foot. Let's see how Sonos likes it.

It is certainly ballsy.
The lawsuit doesn't necessarily mean much to you and I, but if the United States International Trade Commission makes a judgement that changes how / what Google and Amazon can demand... well that could open a lot of things up.
This industry is not getting cheaper and cheaper, we're simply convincing ourselves that we have to push the cheapest option to customers.

Sonos is going up against a corporation that has endlessly deep pockets, and a company that employs an entire building of lawyers. Sonos's lawyers must feel they have a pretty compelling case and a case they think is bulletproof.

Them not suing Amazon makes me feel like that case has holes in it.

it will be interesting to see how this plays out

If Google and Amazon bury Sonos on their sites, Sonos could well cease to exist.

Did the Sonos executives really think that they could have it all to themselves? How ignorant.

In this lawsuit, if their are ANY small differences in how the devices operate and are engineered, Sonos will lose, and they could then kiss their collective asses goodbye.

'In 2013, Sonos scored a coup when Google agreed to design its music service to work easily with Sonos’s home speakers. For the project, Sonos handed over the effective blueprints to its speakers."

I guess they learned nothing from apple "helping" google create android.

Who buys Sonos now?

Google? We no need to continue with Litigation at that point...

Amazon? Might as well since they're not in litigation.

My handle is Tweety but I have nothing to do with the organization of similar name. I just had a really big head as a child so folks called me tweety bird.

Microsoft... they aren't in the multi-room game.
They have the money.
They have the innovation chops.

This is the way to get google to buy sonos. I read something years ago that google actually needs places to spend money.

That's the best part!
Microsoft will have a bunch of spare hardware kicking around, ready to be rebranded 'Sonos' in time for their portable, non-streaming product.
Microsoft will NAIL it!

Funny you should mention Walkman- I was curious to know if I could still find a center gear for mine and when I checked online, I saw ebay listings asking $699 for the same model. It's the WM-DC2, which is the playback-only version of the Walkman Pro. I might have to sell this thing.....

Roffers sold Doug a 10th Anniversary Chrome Walkman for like $1000 bucks.  He would come in and make payments on it.  When he scratched the battery cover, he would call every day to find out when the replacement would come in.  Not sure if you know which Doug I'm talking about, but if you do, you know how annoying that guy could be.

This would be a board of directors type decision.
